2001 NAS D2 conversion to Td5 5 speed
 

Wow big heading but it was even a bigger job. I want to start this post by saying to all of the people in the Land Rover World that said it could not be done, hahahaha, and to those who said don't do it, hahahaha. Now with that said this project started in Nov. with a front drive-line break, that took out the transmission. So how do you go from a broken drive-line to a Td5 5 speed conversion? Well alot of dedication and alot of help from Rovers North, and Les Parker. So down to details, you would think that this swap would be simple enough, wrong you can buy a left hand drive manual box Td5 main body harness, but they only come in low line so you must add, heated seats, power seats, sunroofs, Alpine radio, A/C, and Cruise. When your done their and have removed all of the front interior of the car you can un-bolt and replace foot pedals, clutch master, Auto box ecu, swap BCU's because you cannot reprogram a BCU to a Td5 5 Speed. When your done there cut the old motor mounts off the frame and start fresh with new ones. Remove the fuel tank and replace all of the fuel system, tank, lines etc. So long story short we are now at about $17k in parts who knows in labor, but it runs great and is getting 27.5 miles to the gallon WOW! And everything works, even more amazing. Here are some pics of the job enjoy.

Yes I have done all the work myself, did a 94 110 conversion last year including all the paint and body work took all of the A/C dash out and cut in the 90 style bulkhead vents, had all of the trim galv. like it should be, put a 300 tdi in it, moved the spare tire from the back door to the hood.

Has the TD5 still got it's viscous fan and EGR system intact? If they're not required for legality in your area, replacing them with a blanking plate for the EGR and a Kenlowe electric fan should see your MPG go from circa 27.5 to more like 32 ;)

Thank you yes the egr is still there and I have been thinking about it because the egr seems to be sucking oil from the pan, under heavy load.

The later 300Tdi engines (from 1997 I think) had an EGR fitted too - something like a +10% seat of the pants increase in performance gained by blanking it off and the part costs something like GBP £5 from ebay. Afraid I don't know how much or where to get something similar for the TD5 or whether anything needs changing re engine management - to much elecktrickery for my liking in a TD5 ;)

Hey guys, i was wondering, how much does a conversion like this cost? I know i wouldn't be able to do it myself, so is an estimate possible?

I'm into this thing about $16k in parts, and I have no idea what kind of labor if you were to have to pay for the labor you are way out of the park. just the parts is to much for most. Hope this helps
