2017 Discovery climate design - must read

If you live in a hot or cold climate, do not purchase the 2017 Discovery without the 4 zone climate control option. There are missing vents in the second and third rows and no second blower. Which means, not all passengers will feel comfortable. This is a design defect on LR's part by not having the 2nd blower and more vents for this big of a car like they had on the LR4.

Also, on the 3 zone climate control 3rd zone does not work at all.

Fair warning everyone.

They came and delivered to my house last night and took it out today all day. The temp was 90 with high humidity so heat index was 106. I have the HSE and the AC was blowing hard and was cold. I even jumped in the back and rode as a passenger and was comfortable. I will be monitoring the situation after reading your post. I know that having BMW M cars they have one flaw and that is their AC units. Must be a European thing.

Thanks for the reply. But, you will need to do three things before thinking everything is ok.

1. There are two zones in the front with two vents for each. Turn both zones to 68 degrees. Do not turn any of the vents to the rear of the car and see how the 2nd row feels then.

2. Put the two front zones to say 68. Then get in the 2nd row and turn zone 3 to Lo/Max. Watch what happens to the two front zone vents.

3. Sit in the 3rd row when it is hot outside and leave the car at 68 degrees synced. See if you are comfortable then. Remember - most people have either children or animals in the 3rd row/cargo.

I have the 5 seat set up. And when dog ( Great Pyrenees) goes with us we have second row folded and windows down. Don't have kids and never leave dog in the car. So I don't think that I will effected as much as people with 7 seats and trying to transport kids. I think that LR dropped the ball. I mean WTF were you thinking LR. Good luck with your fight and keep bringing it in and when they cant fix it than go to the NTSB and file a claim. I know that is what a lot of the Jeep Cherokee owners did with that piece of crap.

I feel you with the heat issues. I am at the gates of hell here! We have 90% humidity with 90 degree temps it is pure evil.. Good Luck on your fight!

I just picked up my new Discovery 2017 yesterday. I will do some testing when I have some time, and report my findings here.

Definitely interested to hear what you all find as you test them out. Particularly around 2nd and 3rd row comfort. Thank you!

JB1, thanks for posting this. It's a big enough issue for me to not order a new Discovery. Compared to my 3-zone LR4, (which has fantastic AC) the second row center vents and ceiling vents are gone. No third row AC vents at all. Pretty sure the 3-zone Disco only has one AC unit where the 3-zone on the LR4 has 2 AC units.

And I don't want the massage seats or metallic windshield they bundled with the 4-zone AC. They should offer the 4-zone AC as a separate option.

I took our first passengers yesterday and the heat index was about 115 and the trip lasted hour there and hour back with lots of stop and go. The verdict from my buddy was they were comfortable the whole time. I know this does not involve the third seat area but it was my first test of this issue. If anything changes I will let you know! so far so good and great vehicle in and out so far.

I have 4 zone climate. I was in Palm Springs when it was 124 degrees. I had 6 people filling up all three rows for a 1/2 hour drive. Yes it was hot, but the A/C made up for it sufficiently. I did use the remote start to run A/C for 20 minutes. So, I would have to say the compressor does the job.
