TD6 first service at 8,000 miles and ready for 2nd service at 16,000 miles in 500 miles - like clockwork every 8,000 miles. First service was a complete oil and filter change at the Colorado Springs LR dealership $120.

Just looked at our Si6, it has 3400 miles now and says next service due in 11000 miles. Seems to have dropped form over 15k miles initially.

My TD6 was due at 6K. I changed the oil myself with only a slight hiccup with a socket that was too shallow for the oil filer. The extractor port makes it quick and easy.
The diesels have short oil life if you don't drive them long distance as fuel gets into the oil.

Where do I look to determine when I need service?
I cannot seem to find a menu option in the car that gives me this info.

I look on the instrument panel, with ignition on but engine not running. It is under Vehicle Information menu and called service information or something like that.

Thanks...I just did that and was able to view the service info.
Why it isn't available while the car is running is a mystery.
It said 10,000 miles.
Seems like this is an interval that someone set...not one that the vehicle determined based on mileage, driving style, etc.
Is this correct?
Seems like some of the folks on here have a service indicator that appears to be a bit more dynamic...changing from day to day based on conditions.
There was an oil level option in there as well, but when I clicked on it, it said unavailable.
I'm surprised there isn't more service information available than a preset 10,000 mile mark.
This is no more useful than the sticker that Jiffy Lube affixes to your window.

As as I posted previously on our D5 it initially stated over 15600 miles when I checked it with only a few 100 miles on it, after 3k miles it dropped to 11000 miles. So it seems to dynamically adjust based on driving conditions, etc. Not just a preset mileage. Agree, it would be good to have the info while the engine is running.

To check the oil level you need to run it till it is at operating temp. Then turn it off and let it sit for a few minutes. Turn on ignition, but don't start it. You should then be able to check the oil level. It is similar to checking the oil level with a dip stick, get to op. temp, turn of engine and let it sit for a bit and then check while engine is off.

I added some links that may help.

Oh...so the 10,000 isn't indicating that I need to go in for service when I reach 10,000 miles...it's indicating that i have 10,000 miles remaining before I need to go in for service. I'm sitting at approx. 4,900 right now.
So the miles indicated will change as the days, weeks, and miles go by...correct?
So, 15,000 miles for the 1st service...does that sound about right?

Yes, Yes, Yes.

I still think 15000 miles is way too long for a first service. But that is what the factory says.

I need to see if I can find a reputable independent shop here in Norcal, would prefer a full drain vs extraction of oil on some services.

Has anyone been using full synthetic on their D5? I've been using Amsoil on last 3 cars and they state a 1yr/25K miles normal operation interval -- more for harder driving.
Are dealerships amenable to outside oil changes?
