front hood will not pop open
 

I had this issue before and the dealer could not find issue with the hood latch release malfunctioning. Today the battery died and the hood latch release will not open both sides of the hood to allow me to release the hood and open it. The hood release will pop one side open but not the other. Does anyone have experience with this or suggestions?

Well, the good news is your battery is in the rear compartment...

This happened to me recently. Though admittedly after I manually locked the latch so I could lock my D5 with the hood open. I just gave it a few stern pushes down then tried again then repeated once more. After opening I noticed the side that stuck has a loose connector on the hood...that may be the problem?

Make sure to pull the hood latch release all the way to the top.

Are you somewhere cold?? I have the same issue. The hood release cable doesn't release properly when it gets very cold. The release handle doesn't pull far enough to pop it open. If you pull very hard on the hood release lever (without snapping it - it's plastic...) it will sometimes work. Really irritating

I mentioned at annual service and they couldn't find anything wrong (in august...) and lubricated it. But still does it on a cold morning

Apparently there is a fix to replace the cable (too long I heard?).

But as mentioned battery is in the boot on the right hand side behind the side panel (which is a pain to get off. You can connect and jump it or charge it from there

Until fixed properly try having someone push down on the hood while you pull the handle and hold it in released position.
Then, maybe that will take pressure off that right hand latch and let it release.

I had the same issue and had to go twice to the dealer for hood re-alignment and cable/latch replacement.

There is a TSB on the hood latch cable stretching. I've had this happen twice.

Recently I've had it happen again where just one side would release. I had a service tech pull the latch handle, then actually force the latch a little further back and the other side released.

Having same problem with my 17 Discovery HSE...tomorrow will be 2nd trip to dealer and hopefully a fix....Love the vehicle, but the laundry list of issues is not what I was expecting for a $70000 plus vehicle.

Dealer stated it is common issue in cold climate weather...lubed release hitch on both sides...working as it should for now.

It has happened twice to me. The first time in warm weather, the second time last week in -5 F Chicago weather when my car wouldn’t start and I couldn’t jump it myself because the cable was apparently stretched. The dealer replaced the cable and updated the charging software. It’s the last straw for me — too many issues for a $70k car!
