How to prevent Injector and crankshaft failure.
It seems like Injector and crankshaft failures are the biggest threat to td6 engines. What are the best ways to prevent any of these happening to your engine. Would using fuel additives and oil changes every 8k miles do good for the engine or is there more to do?

For my part, I've switched to a slightly heavier weight oil (0W-40) and oil changes every 5K.
I plan to run UOA reports as well, to spot any contamination early on. Lastly, no short trips for the D5. fingers-crossed |
Fingers crossed.... 8k oil changes, fuel additive, spec oil (Mobil1 ESP 5w-30w)
strategy started @40k..... now @92K |

The land rover recommended oil for the td6 is 5w30 why did you switch to 0w-40
I could be wrong, so I've posted the used oil analysis with the factory spec oil, and I'll share the same from 0w-40 run (in a month or so). Happy to share the data and seek feedback. |
This has been posted before on the forum, this is a good video on the TD6 engine and how it would benefit from a heavier oil.
I run the Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 and change oil and filter every five thousand miles, especially since it's so easy to do top-side. I think the Land Rover recommended oil change interval of 16 thousand miles is asking for trouble; engine oil becomes contaminated and does not protect as well long before sixteen thousand miles. |
So the real question is do we switch to 5w40 or keep the mobil 1 esp 5w30? Ill be waiting until the test results that adam is going to do with the heavier oil come back and decide then

I'll stay with the 5w-30. The 16k oil change interval was the main problem causing the oil dilution in my opinion. But that said, I do hope it works out for Adam, and no failure down the road.

Worst Diesel Engine on the Planet ? Ford Lion V6 - Land Rover TDV6 SDV6 (youtube.com) It even shows that 5w40 oil is land rover spec in other countries.
