Winter shoes...
As good as any 4 wheel drive vehicle might be, unless the tires are up to the task it might not be giving enough traction. We haven't had much snow here but enough to let me know the stock tires might not give me the traction I want.
So...for those who might be thinking about it, I got a set of Blizzaks mounted and put on for about $1,000. They ride as good as the stock tires and are not any louder on the highway. As soon as we get some snow I"ll know more. |
Blizzaks are a good tire choice, I believe you will be happy

Went Nokian Hakka R3 SUV on mine. Very happy.

Went with the Nokian R3 SUV also. Very happy so far. Long-time blizzak user and was happy with them but wanted the upgrade.

Which Blizzaks did you get? Which specific tire spec, and are these the 20inch?
How are they performing? I didn't buy extra rims this time, It makes them a bit easier to store and a lot lighter to move around. I figured unless I keep them about 10 years..(80 mounting and bal yr.) it wouldn't pay to buy rims. |
Not sure how to post a pic on here, but send me your email and I can snap a pic or two if you like.

I've had the Pirelli Scorpion Winters on for a couple months and am very happy with them - from the multiple ski trips to a 2500k road trip.
I've had 5 sets of Blizzaks and have always loved them too. |
Terrific. Thank you both. Groucho / no pic needed but could you post the specific Blizzaks winter tire model you got as they have many different types. Thanks!

255/55/20 is what is on the side of tire. |

Hi - looking to get the winter tires for my Disco. I was planning on the Nokian Hakkan R3 SUV like several of you, but I can't find them online and the Nokian website tells me they don't make them in our size. 255/55R20
What am I missing? Did I get the size wrong or did you perhaps get a non oem size? Also looked at Blizzak and looks like only the DM-V2 in our side. Not the WS80 nor the newer WS90 Tire rack only has the Pirelli scorpion winter (which LR recommends) Any ideas? |
I have the Blizzaks DMV-2, couldn't be happier. They ride and handle as good as my summer tires.
I wouldn't hesitate one bit. |

Bought mine from Discount Tire.

I bought a used set of RR Sport wheels and had them refinished (as my winter set w/Toyo Observe GSI-5's):

Thanks everyone. Yes, I found the Hakka R3 on discount tire in the end but strangely I couldn't find on amazon so thanks for the link above.
Will go ahead and buy. I already got a second set of the standard Disco wheels so I can swap out whenever I need Thanks! |
It's interesting that some consider snow tires for the Land Rover. To me it seems heavy enough, and even all season tires with decent sipes do just fine. Now the Infiniti we had sucked regardless of tire choice, but every Rover we have owned did great, as does my wifes Subaru on Michelins, Premier AS if memory serves. Don't have a desire to store tires, but do those of you that do fit snow tires really see a big difference? In Colorado its dry enough that snow and ice is kind of joke. We tend to golf between snow storms.:)

Yeah, I suspect our Yoko G015s are going to do just fine. May get snow up at 9000 ft at the cabin this weekend. Hope so. Going out to close it up for winter. :(

However the new Discovery last winter with the Goodyear Eagle all seasons was very poor in light icy snow. It was most noticeable in braking where several times in a snow storm it locked up and glides 100+ yards with the ABS pumping and no reduction in speed. I don't think it's the car itself as it simply seemed to be car to road traction - not the AWD system etc. so I think the Goodyear tires are just not good in those conditions. Anyone else experienced that? I have space to store winter tires so rather than trashing new Goodyear's it cost the same to get winters and I like the idea of the extra traction I run dedicated winters on my Jag XF but that's rear wheel drive - so the difference is night and day! |
I really need to get a set of 20" wheels so I can enjoy better tire choices.
Does anyone know off-hand what model year RRS and RR wheels fit our offset? How far back does it go? |

I used these sites to compare offsets and sizes between the models: https://www.wheel-size.com/size/land-rover/discovery-5/ https://www.wheel-size.com/size/land-rover/range-rover/ In the end, I bought 10-spoke wheels, which were fitted to the 06-09 RRS (third wheel here: https://www.originalwheels.com/landr...rt2007rims.php) |
