bad tcase

I'm looking at an 03 Discovery and the seller says it has a jammed tcase. What's he talking about? Should I buy it at $1500, offer less, or walk away?

My moms rover went out. my boyfriend believes its the transfer case, my friend says his car had the same issues the rover had, but it was the transmission that went out. Transfer cases by themselves are around four hundred. But we bought another rover for 500, that we were gonna use parts from, but I fell in love with the sound(no exhaust). So it became mine. If you know for sure that its the transfer case, you gotta make sure you want to do it. The switch doesnt seem too difficult, a few bolts to change out. My boyfriend said its heavy and thats what makes it hard.

If that is the only thing wrong with it, that is actually a pretty good price. 2003 & 2004 is the "updated" Disco (cosmetic changes + larger engine), so $1500 leads me to believe there may be other things wrong.

As for the T-Case being jammed, probably something internal wrong with a shift fork, or possibly a shift cable. If you need to be able to switch between 4H and 4L, then you are probably looking at putting a used Transfer Case in, which can probably be done for under $1K. I have a Disco that is stuck in 4H, but I never use 4L, so I never bothered with it.
