Crossed the Pond after 20 years of Audi ownership
Hello! I just made my first British purchase. Bought an '04 SE7 Adriatic Blue on Black Discovery with only 96K miles.
I've lurked here for a while because I began this researching purchase about a year ago as I narrowed down what type of vehicle would meet our needs, then researching the Disco's and which model I wanted, I landed on the '04 SE7 or HSE7. I had a purchase price limit of $2500, because I knew I would pull the motor (even if running fine) to do top-hat sleeves, new bearings, Crower 629 cam, lifters, and APR fasteners.
After 3 months of daily refreshing my Search Tempest search and many texts, phone calls, emails, near purchases, near transport fees, near Escrow usage & fees, I found one 2 hours away with a freshly seized motor -overheated, not oil starvation- at 96000 miles, dealer serviced and one owner for $2700. Removed the rear drive shaft and dollied it home.
Anyways, I'm a former mechanic now high school vocational (Automotive) instructor. My bread and butter are Audi's (of which I've had 13 since '94, and 23 in the family since then too), so I feel a bit of betrayal to the Audi brand, but Q7's were out of my price range and I've always liked Land Rovers.
The students and I have just pulled the motor (interesting to do by the way with a seized motor -pulling the motor AND torque converter out together because I didn't see the back two hidden oil pan bolts and therefore couldn't pull the pan to loosen up some main/rod caps to get the motor turned over for the flexplate/torque converter bolts). Wow, long sentence!
I look forward to and thank you all already for the use of the wealth of knowledge I've found here!

If you get stuck for parts, which I doubt in the US, scour the UK LR sites as there are so many, even more than you can shake a stick at. If your really stuck, PM me and I'll take a browse around for you, that's an open offer to everyone with an LR. Good luck it's an interesting project, keep us updated.
