Hey there everyone I'm Barrie, I live in Adelaide, South Australia. I used to own a series 1 Disco, 3.9. I loved it, well that was until I was going anywhere and had to fuel it up. I'm looking at a 2005 Discovery 3 SE TDV6 at the moment, does anyone have any warnings or heads up of anything I should be looking out for? I'd appreciate any help.

Here is the maint schedule for the LR3. With your knowledge of previous Discos, you might imagine as I do that 150,000 on diff oil is a bit long, considering the LR3 only holds two soda cans full, is 1300 pounds heavier, etc. So a used one could be promoted as having all maintenance done, and you could be driving with 145,000 on the diff lube.

Lots of electronics, needs good battery.

Dont get your vehicle serviced at the dealership. Go with Black Forest Land rover independant shop. Trust me, worked for the dealer and they don't know much, there was only one guy with actual land rover experience. Stick with Black Forest, they were the original dealer until LR made a deal with the current dealer to get both franchises.

PS, welcome to the boards. I lived in Adelaide for half a year. Wonderful place. Miss the central market and the wine country. What part of adelaide are you from. I lived in the northern end of adelaide near parafield gardens.

Thanks, I've got a mechanic who's worked on my last few cars, although not my last Disco. He is a stickler for regular oil changes and argues that changing your oil twice as often as the manufacturer says is a good idea and let's face it car builders make money from selling cars and car parts, why would they suggest doing something that would save us all money???

It doesn't cost much to keep a car in good condition as long as it starts out that way...

Cheers, I've got a great mechanic in Ridgehaven, while not a Land Rover specialist, they're good, honest and know their stuff. I had the last Disco worked on by Black Forrest Land Rover after being screwed by Lindas Land Rovers, which is why I got rid of it. Being told your car valued at $5-6,000 has over $10K worth of repairs after the apprentice was working on things that seemed to cascade costing me thousands... I don't think that Black Forest Land Rover is there any more, I know the dealership building is empty now.

I'm in Modbury so Ridgehaven is perfect for me and I want the car as I do photography and am looking for something I can take off road for photo shoots.

Love Adelaide too, the town isn't too busy, the quality of the fresh food is incredible, although while the Central Market is great, the local Farmers Market at Parafield Airport is better now. If you come back to town, check it out.

Unbelievable, get to the car yard this morning bright and early. The car was there, unlocked but no keys. I climb all over it, it's seen some work but for it's age it's in good condition.
After climbing all over it I check the fuel filler cap and surprise surprise Premium Unleaded Fuel Only!

It's not a diesel. The salesman lied to my wife

Then he wasn't much of a salesman. But being straight commission raises the ethical issue of how big a lie you will tell to make your house payment. A really good sales professional does not have to lie. Just taking up for the sales weasels, without them we would not have anything to build or ship or install.

It seems to be a common problem finding a good "Landy mechanic"
the good ones seem not to work for dealerships, they seem to be stuck with the leftovers.
