Default A 5 sided bolt no less!!!

Now sit down, get comfortable and listen up. Where would you find a five sided bolt? ........... seriously, I did say 5 sided. On a Smart City Coupe of course, doesn't everyone know that!

Well here's the rub, I have never before in my entire life seen a five sided bolt but now I have, they are used to secure the lower front caliper slider pin to the caliper on a Smart Car Coupe. It will be rapidly exchanged for a six sided bolt on re-assembly but I am still reeling in amazement. Only Merc Smart Cars could use a 5 sided bolt along with euro E bolts everywhere. Guess what, I didn't have a spanner to fit it so in the bin it goes now I've removed it in the bench vice.

Hate to say it FND, 4 sided are quite common, they are often called 'coach bolts or screws'

4 sided also works with many of the tools that we already have on hand.

In Canada we use 5 sided bolts for high voltage enclosures, it kind of keeps those out who shouldn’t be in there. Lol.

I've yet to come across a penta nut, bolt or screw. Will try to stick to dumb vehicle for rest of my life.

That's understandable but on some car brakes, it's ludicrous. I suppose the reasoning is you are forced to take the car to the Merc Smart dealer for any issues, hence they use many special E bolts, nuts etc.

Believe me it's a Mercedes Smart Car gimmick for sure, never before have I ever seen a 5 sided bolt on any vehicle, bike or car, and I've fixed a few over 60 years.
