Has anyone wheeled with a Mercedes G wagen? I may get one in the future, always liked them.

I wish I had your money. Would you care to adopt me?

You're hilarious! I was thinking in a few more years when they get close to used LR prices hehe. I like them, but just wanted to know if anyone had the opportunity to see them in action.

I'd be afraid to scratch it!!

There is a few vids on youtube of people wheeling them...

I am sure the guys with the new Range Rovers think of their truck the same way G wagen guys do haha

I wouldn't wheel a g wagon on anything other than fire roads. Not because it isn't more capable but I just don't think you get a g wagon to rock crawl.

I have not wheeled in one but have seen on on the trail and was impressed.

I have been looking for a 4x4 tow vehicle.
From what I have found the 2006 and 2005's have five speed trans in them and are the ones that are best for off roading.
They have 5.0 with 296 hp 336 ft lbs tq.
The best part is three locking diffs and solid axles like the Old Land Rovers.
They are running from $45K to $55k

The newer ones have a plate to protect the gas tank from rear end accidents and do not have a hitch setup.
Last year I got a Mercedes E class and every time I go to the dealer for service I have to look at the G class I like them but the GL has a diesel motor and run about $5k to $7k cheaper but are not as good off road so it is a toss up next year I will see what I can find abd then make up my mind.
Its hard to find a 4x4 SUV that can tow 6000 lbs

I don't know much about G-Wagons other than seeing once about once a year probably headed to Telluride,CO. Got to looking at them online and it was quite interesting. I can definitely see that it would be an amazing 4x4 to have. Saw a 2 door convertible from the 80's on E-bay that sure looked good. I did not know they made convertibles years ago. Looks like it would be a lot of fun to own an older G-wagon.

Mercedes Benz did not import the G wagen until 2002 up till that point a company in New Mexico , Santa Fe as I recall imported them.

They had diesels and six cylinders in all shapes and sizes I don't know if they had V8's or not.
I was in Santa Fe in the late 80's and saw one and did not know what it was as it rattled by, a diesel 2 door hard top.

After MB started to bring the G wagen in it put the other company out of business, the cheap G-wagen sold for $110k and the 2002 G500 from MB sold for $72500 or just about half the price, but no diesels or soft tops or 2 doors, just one V8 four door and a G55 AMG was added in 2003.

the truth is i'm not rich i cannot afford to buy a new car every 3 or 5years but i save enough money to buy my dream car or a real truck or SUV however we call it (G-WAGEN MERCEDES) due to the history of this truck it is a proven car, since they say i cannot out live this car well i plan to keep this car for as long as i live, for everyday everywhere and any purposes cause it is a real truck so my real question is should i get the new improve diesel engine or a gazoline one, i need to know which one will last or will meet my goal and which engine will still be a charm after years of usage.
