Portsmouth NH to Seward AK 2017 Itinerary draft

Finally got this finished so now I know exactly where Im going, where to refuel, where to sleep etc. I wanted to customize my route beyond the basic suggestions offered by any traditional GPS unit or Google Maps and Mapquest. Wanted to follow my own route of intereste, go where I want to go and refuel specifically at Shell Fuel Stations where possiable. Took awhile to make this and man what a pain in the ass. Probably wont have to much wiggle room in my scedule but if any of you folks live nearby then Id love to stop and say hi befor moving onwards. Also if anyone can suggest awesome places that are in close proximinty to my route please share!

When does this happen, TRIARII? I trust you will take pictures and post them. Epic drive!

I have to ask... how are you down to 10MPG highway?

Robert Booth 01-08-2017 11:02 PM

Plan for 10 then be pleasantly surprised with slightly better. That seems a solid way to plan for this. Once you hit the mountains out west, fuel economy sucks and gas is more expensive in Canada than the US so it's not a bad rule of thumb to have.

TRIARII, Sounds like a fun trip! Just a heads up, if you break down or just need service after stopping at Parker's in Buffalo literally 5 minutes down the street is Athol Motor Car 184 Reading Ave. Buffalo, NY ( 716 - 824-2276). These guys have been around for 35 years and do NO BS work on imports(especially Rovers).

I have a Nikon D3300 DLSR with a 18-55mm & a 55-200mm lense, plus a live action GoPro first gen. I hope to invest in a decent aerial drone with built in HD camera as well; there will be plenty of pictures and video clips ;)

I doubt Ill have any mechanical issues on this trip though. A little worried about the XYS switch seeing how my truck is about 160k now but most everything else is solid. The pending misfire codes keep haunting me but the truck still runs great so need to bite the bullet and go.

Need to save up a little bit more money and make it big decision about weather to start the trip in coming month or wait afew months until the climate up north warms up.

According to my UG Im getting 10 MPG highway. Better to under estimate MPG than over estimate. I also over estimated cost of fuel. Across the nation the cost for premium Shell fuel is less than $3.00 per gallon. As Robert Booth said, its better to have extra money left over than be short on gas money and get stranded part way through the trip...

I have AAA and Ill add roadside to my auto insurance plan for duration of trip just to be safe. May rent a SAT phone as well since my cellular phone may not get service out west and in Canada.

+1 on sat phone. They're awesome and not ridiculously expensive

As you are entering Michigan on I-69 (by the bluewater bridge in Port Huron, MI/Sarnia, Ont.) are you planning on exiting 168 (Imlay City) or 163 (N. Lake Pleasant Rd) to go north to North Branch. Me, I'd take 163, you avoid Imlay City and it is a much more pleasant ride, rolling farm land, less traffic, etc.

I'm only a few miles from North Branch, actually along I-69 in Capac...which is about 12 miles before Lake Pleasant Rd. Let me know when you plan on rolling through and I'll do what I can to meet up with you in North Branch or in route. You show all of your fuel stops in your itinerary, but say nothing about where you plan on hanging your hat for the evening.

Looks like one hell of a journey, wish you all the best in your travels.

Brian.

Ill keep that in mind thanks! Suggestions are always appreciated. Also if anyone knows of any major landmarks on or near my route please let me know.

Deputy: Id be happy to meet up with you when I get there. As for lodging I will be camping out of my truck. Gonna see about parking at truck stops on highway, gas stations and of all else fails any Walmart parkinglot. The main thing I care about is Shell fuel stations lol.

I just zoomed in on the map. 90 hours, now that's a TRIP!

I SERIOUSLY hope you have a safe trip but I just a seriously hope you conquer the distance in wintertime. That's something I have always wanted to do.
