There should be aftermarket approved cats for 2002. I think.

They are going to do a visual inspection, so it will fail without OE cats, or an approved cat. I think the magnaflow cat you've got should be approved. The problem is that NO 2002 came with 4.6. So you're confusing the people on the phone. Just pretend you've got a 4.0.

You can search for California converters here. If yours is on the list, I'd hope you could just give the documentation when you try to smog it.

This is why I like living in the sticks. Arkansas doesn't do any of this crap.

Okay, I got really excited until I noticed there is nothing for a 4.6. The front engine information stated I have a 4.6 but I could have sworn my car was only a 4.0. I have a SD.

In North American discovery:

99-02 has a 4.0
03-04 has a 4.6

If your 2002 has a 4.6 the engine has been replaced. And I certainly wouldn't tell that to the communist California emissions people.

Lol u r cracking me up Jafir. My engine has not been replaced, I'm wondering if the guy at the muffler shop read the sticker information wrong. I'm going to go take a pick real quick.

All of the CA approved magnaflow cats are universal fit, just like the all the other CA approved cats. Magnaflow is listed as Car Sound Exhaust System, inc, their parent co, in the CA search https://ssl.arb.ca.gov/PartsSearchTo...earchTool.aspx

So, I'm hoping the muffler guy is just wrong. The test group says 2LRXT04.6002 but the displacement states 241 CU IN. 4.0 LITER. Does this mean that is what's causing the problem, there is no cat bec there is no such thing as a 4.6 02 disco???? I'm relieved, but I'm gonna kill this guy (not literally) if he put me through all this stress today for nothing.
