Default 2 or 3 Vent Pipe Fuel Tank

So, the fuel tank support plate on my '06 RRS is corroded to the point that it needs to be replaced. Apparently there are two styles of fuel pump/tank used from the factory. One with two vent pipes, the other three. Each one of these set ups uses a slightly different support plate. The retailer of the plate informs me that I need to contact the dealership with the VIN to find out which on the truck was built with. Obviously the dealership is not happy to disclose that information. Replacement is an easy DIY fix. I would rather not pay the dealership almost $700 to install a part I can obtain for under $200.

Any tips on how to figure out how many vents a tank has?

Here's an idea, compare the tank plate on your truck to the pics above
Or call ANY LR Dealer's PARTS DEPT and give them your model info and ask for the tank support (as if you are going to BUY the part from them). And then they will ask for your VIN info and tell you the part you need. Good Luck!

Why didn't I think of just looking underneath? I did and it does have the two bolts on the outboard side of the plate (*21G). Now I have a few days to run down the fuel in the tank to make it easier to support the tank. Looks like an easy procedure...just have to figure out how to support the tank while the plate is out.

On your floor jack remove the jacking plate. It should leave you with a 1" hole.

Pick up a couple heavy fender washers, nut, and a 4" ish bolt (measure to find what works for you).

Than make a "H" out of 2x4 drill a hole in the center of the cross run the bolt through with the washers and tighten it up. One home made tank support, that can lift and lower.

Also works for trannys, transfer cases, axel housings etc
