Default Changing out an Expansion Valve

Hey Gang,
I'm trying to work out some AC issues on a 98 RR SE. My next step is swapping out the expansion valve. I checked with a local shop, they wanted 100 to install the valve, 150 to recharge, and 300 for the part. I grabbed a valve from Rock Auto for 19, but they refuse to put my parts in the truck.

I have the Rave CD and it looks like the install is pretty straight forward. Has anyone done this before? I don't have any tools to release the pressure on the system, if I unhook the hoses, I assume that the coolant will escape, and require a recharge, correct?

My plan was to install the valve myself and have the shop recharge the system for me.

Thanks!

Not only will it need new oil and freon, but you will need a vac pump to pull down the system of all air and moisture before recharging it.

Is that part of the routine when they recharge the system? If I swap the valve myself and keep the AC turned off, drive over to the shop and have them recharge it, are we going to be good to go?

Thanks, Mike!

150 for a recharge?! I had mine done for 87. I would try a different shop, mine accepts parts that I give them (they do not give any guarantees though).
