Default Fuel button fell through dash!

My wife stopped while ago to get gas and when she pushed down on the fuel button on the dash it dropped down about 1.5 inches but failed to open the flap fuel door, so she get any more gas into the 1998 RR 4.0.

When she got home the button was still down but the fuel flap door is open. I'm going to fill the tank while I can right now.

I'm afraid if I close the flap the button will not let me in.

Any ideas on refitting the fuel button on the dash.

Is there a trick to it or do I have to remove the dash?

Thanks

It comes apart pretty easily. Just find the right size screw drivers, un-screw it, and remove. I pull the telescopic steering wheel all the way back to give me extra room when I remove them.

Have a look at this video. I know we talk about De beeping but it will show you how to take apart the bezel.

Default I found the problem

When my wife pushed down on the fuel switch to open the gas flap door, the bottom part of the switch broke away from the top part.
I easily pulled off the dash part and opened up the remaining part of the fuel switch. When it broke the two springs fell to the floor and the wire dropped below the dash.
My wife when she got to work, shook out the floor mats by habit and sadly lost any little parts of the switch that fell to the floor.

The way the switch broke apart could have been easily put back together with a little super glue if I been able to gather all the little parts.

I ordered a new fuel switch today and it should be in next week. There's no RR dealer in my town.

It will snap into place perfectly so those of you who haven't been through this yet, don't worry, it's easy.

I did short out the two wires going to the switch just to see the flap pop open, and it did.

Default Part came in today

The new fuel flap button came in today and works great.

I did have to short out the wires once to refuel before the switch arrived last week

Thanks to all and I hope this helps someone else down the line..........
