2005 Range Rover HSE - Purchase
Good morning! I am looking to potentially purchase a project 2005 Range Rover HSE with 135,000 miles with the 4.4L engine for $900 from a distance (vehicle in PA, I am in KY). The person I would be purchasing from has mentioned three problems that the vehicle currently has:
"(1) The transmission is slipping when it gets warm. This is an annoying problem which makes the vehicle undrivable. It will start and move but you cannot drive it for any more than a mile without difficulty. (2) The engine is blowing white smoke. The Internet says this means that coolant is getting into the engine (probably a blown head gasket). The engine ran smooth before and started every time so maybe this will be a relatively easy fix. The car will move so you can drive it onto a trailer. (3) The air suspension is not fully functioning. It will go up to "normal" height and drive, but you cannot always adjust the ride height higher or lower without complaints from the system." Obviously these will take some further diagnosing to find the root causes, but wondering if these are simpler fixes than the owner mentions or if these are typical failure points on this year/model? Could it be something as simple as replacing the PCV similar to an LR3 to get rid of the white smoke? I've requested additional information like a cold start video, what the exhaust smells like... anything else I should consider asking? Thanks in advance! |
