Engines and choices L322

So I mostly do Discoveries but the misses loves the look of the L322. I've seen my fair share of bad eggs but I'm going to roll the dice. I know the 4.4 BMW engine seems to be a bit of a turd. The 4.4 Jag seems better? What are thoughts on the 5.0? I'd like to go as new as possible with as low miles as possible.

Is the L322 something you can do coil conversions on and reprogram it?

Thanks for the input. Its much appreciated.

The 4.4 BMW is not horrible but it has more issues than the 4.4 Jag.

The 5.0 has amazing power but it is a one and done for overheats. There are a few issues outside of that and I wouldn’t kick one out of the driveway but I would prefer if given the option to go 4.4 or 4.2 supercharged.

There is a coil conversion and I would assume the flash module to keep the lights on the dash happy.

Ended up buying a 2003 tonight. Has plenty of small issues but the price was right. Engine sounds mint. Fingers crossed BMW engineering holds out for me.

Going through the laundry list of parts now to get done next week. Being a thousand dollar Rover, she needs love haha. Doing the coil conversion kit with AB, tires, wheels since they are out of round, front control arms, a ton of hoses and gaskets, and the list goes on. Only real issue I'm having right now that's leaving me head scratching is the hood now appears to be jammed. What a bugger.

Happy to say though that being a 2003 BMW, literally the worst year possible, the engine and transmission work flawlessly aside from leaks. I'll keep things posted.
