Oil Pump Fail Engine Cut Off Sensor

I'm considering the purchase of a 2003 Range Rover with the front oil pump failure. The owners says it will run a few seconds then it cuts off automatically? Price is $1200 with 167k miles if you're curous.
Is there a cut off sensor when no or extreme low oil pressure occurs? If so does it reset automatically after the problem is fixed or is there a reset procedure? The suv sat for about a year before the owner
gave up, he said the dealership quoted $1400 estimate to fix. Far cheaper DYI plus the parts aren't as high when I search. I searched this forum a little but didn't find much. This is a new issue since
I'm used to older rovers. I owned a 97 discovery II for 7 years, loved it even more after fixing the battery drains, well most of them.
