I don't have my P38 anymore and I don't remember if there was anything visually on the instrument panel after each key turn. I used to just look at the turn signal.

Havlr is correct, if you have access to a Nanocom you can enter it in with a keypad.

What ever you do, do NOT unplug the battery at this stage. It will not reset the computer and worse it will go into a lockout stage.

If all else fails, you can remove the BeCM from under the passengers seat and send it to Les at Classic Rides North Wales in Britain. When I had my P38 he was the only one who was able to hack into the BeCM and create a key fob. He can unlock your BeCM and get you a fob so when this happens again just press the fob and you don't have to worry about the EKA code. He will be able to confirm the EKA code is turned on and what it is.

I'm suspicious of the local LR Dealer telling you it has the EKA code since most dealers don't want anything to do with these older Land Rovers.

Here is my cheat sheet I created when I had my P38 so I could remember how to do the EKA code.

1. Instructions to enter EKA Code

First, if the instrument panel reads “Engine Disabled” DO NOT unplug the battery. This will not reset the computer and put the BeCM into a locked status.

Now for the EKA code

First, let the alarm stop. Should stop after about 30 seconds.

When turning the key the small turn signal light will flash letting you know the input has been received.

1.Turn key in outside door handle to the lock position(clockwise) 4 times. (return key to middle position after each turn. This tells the computer you are about to enter in the code.

2. Turn key in outside door handle to the unlock position (counter-clockwise) 1 time.

3. Turn key in outside door handle to the lock position (clockwise) 5 time

4. Turn key in outside door handle to the unlock position (counter-clockwise) 1 time

Turn key in the outside door handle to the lock position ( clockwise) 5 times

Turn key in the outside door handle to unlock position (counter-clockwise) 1 time to now unlock the door.

You should now be able to start the car.

KEY LOCKOUT

If the EKA code is entered incorrectly 3 times the BeCM will go into a “Key Lockout” state and that will show on the instrument panel. The EKA code can not be entered during this state. Don’t worry after 30 minutes the BeCM goes out of this state back to “Engine Disabled” and you can enter the EKA code then.
