Hope someone has an idea on this issue.
I have a 2008 RRS that the engine light keeps coming back on.
The car was running fine for years no engine light issues. One day the car just died while driving, it restarted fine. Took it to my Highly experienced Rover guy, not dealer, and they said it was a throttle body issue. Changed the throttle body, no more engine dying but then the steady amber engine light keeps coming back on. Codes showed Mass Air Flow P0101-00, System too rich bank 1 P0172-00 and System too rich bank 2 P0175-00.
My guy changed the Mass Airflow Sensor, cleared the codes and reset the computer to re learn
as per Range Rover manual. Light stayed off for a few drives then back on again.
I’m now being told it is a possible wiring issue or corrosion issue at a connection.
The problem started with the Throttle Body replacement, and the Mass Airflow sensor change out did not fix the issue. I don’t have maintenance discs for the vehicle or wiring diagrams to look at for troubleshooting. Could the NEW Throttle Body be causing the issue? Or is it most likely a connection / wiring issue like my friend says?
Has anyone seen this issue before? If so, any recommendations would be highly appreciated.

Your friend is also correct. The rich codes on both banks point to bad data from the MAF or throttle body. Since the issue started with the repair, a disturbed or corroded connector is the most likely culprit.

First, physically check the connections at the throttle body and MAF sensor. Ensure they are clean and fully clicked in. If that's fine, suspect the new throttle body itself. A used OEM part is often a better bet than a new aftermarket one.

He also did a smoke test on the vacuum system and found no issues there. I spoke with another Rover mechanic and we both feel it’s the throttle body causing it, or the two connectors effected as you stated. My friend says that the throttle body would not cause the light, because it is a light for emissions only. I don’t know Rovers well enough to point a finger at the culprit part. Is the throttle body sending a signal to the computer that could cause it to run rich on both banks?
