packing gear into my truck thread
me blabbering about what im going to do... any suggestions would be awesome
i took the rear seats out of my D2, carpet is coming out next. the rear seatbelts are gone i still have the cargo bins in there for now, one has various fluids in it the other has TP, paper towels, bungees, tie downs and a tow strap. I have one and might be getting a second spare 265/75/16 that i want to put in the truck, a 70qt cooler (prefferably with cooler mounts so i can keep it in place) and some tools. I am thinking of keeping the roof rack open laying a Farmtek floor down and using a simple tarp and tie down setup to make a pup tent for camping up there. I have a wilderness roof rack so its not slanted like the SD racks. I was thinking of even measuring it to see if i can fit a twin size airbed up there. lol. the other considerations i have to take is my shovel, hi-lift and axe. i don't mind mounting them on the sides of the rack but am thinking inide the truck for those as well. I also took the spare tire mount off so I could use that somehow or those holes somehow... hmm... |
How much space between the bars on the floor of your roof rack?
|
Don't forget the donuts and Mt. Dew...

i have the one spare on the roof now but its just a pain in the butt up there it takes up too much roof rack space, makes it more top heavy and is quite the pain to military press up there. putting it in my truck i think will help somewhat. im gonna take a better look this weekend when i pull the carpets and start addressing lining the floor. |
So is this for a trip, or for a permanent setup?
|
it will be permanent. i don't drive my truck anywhere unless its either nasty snow and ice or im going off-roading. i have a small ford i use to get to work every day.
nearly all off-road trips will include a night of camping or more. Thinking of heading to the national rally this year as well. |
Do you like your ScangaugeII?
|
Here is your floor for your rack, it makes it nicer to use.
https://landroverforums.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=33394 It works great. |
Gee Ed I'm glad I drove 2hrs to pick up a roof rack for you that your not going to use....Btw Spike the farmtek is alittle more cash but it weighs 8pds per sheet (2 sheets for a sd rack) and at 200pds I can stand on any part of that rack even in between the bars and it supports my fat ass and the spare tire. Its pretty good sh*t.

scanguage is good, doesn't give oil or fuel pressure. Does give coolant temp, engine load, voltage, mpg, avg mpg, reads cel codes etc..
I'm thinking farmtek flooring. Brett I use the sh!t out of the rack! I'm having trouble figuring out storage for the interior of the truck. I'm just going to have to sit there for a day and play jenga before I start putting tie downs in the floor |
