Yea. I agree. Defender had a good commercial segment.

IMO I hope it's beefy yet modern. There is so much Tata can do with it!

But didn't Rover just unveil a new Defender concept and put the rumor out it was slated as a world wide truck?

the pix i saw was of a SUV not a truck.
they now offer 10 truck models not counting all the utility conversions.
i just didn't see happening from the pic i saw.
hopfully they realize that the XS defender is not there only market,
before someone else grabs it.

I just hope they don't make a balls of the new defender. There is a lot of stuff they can mess up. Hopefully it keeps the same rugged charm and versatility of the classic without being too luxurious and "soccer-mom-ish" like some of their newer models tend to me.

Rugged, highly capable off road, and nice inside but not too "techy". Oh, and course, handsome looking on the outside, with that slightly boxy classic look that makes you immedaitely think DEFENDER.

This is what it needs to be.

Not a Ford Explorer lookalike, like the 2015 Discovery Sport.

Well the Discovery Sport was the replacement for the RL2. Not the LR3/4. Thus it could be any Ford Explorer/ Toyota SUV you like.

The new LR3/4 comes out later this year. Im wondering what the inside will look like.

As for the Defender, I didn't think there are any pics out of the next version. Am I wrong? If so please post a like. I would love to see it. Even if we are talking a prototype.

I need to start filling my piggybank for my next Rover anyway ;-)

The capability and ruggedness just needs to be there. I see so many snobby-looking young women driving round in LRs and RRs these days, most of them look like they have no idea what their vehicle is made to do, and probably they've never taken it off a paved road in their life.

I just don't like the direction that LR has been heading lately, especially with the Evoque and new Discovery Sport etc. They are going soft. I understand that they are trying to attract more sales by introducing "city cars" into their lineup. But this is attracting all kinds of the wrong people, imo. It's also changing the way people perceive the brand.

Not really known for "ruggedness" any more, now known more for "luxury".

Somebody asked me the other day "does your Land Rover have 4 wheel drive?" I almost facepalmed!!

in the big picture the industrial truck side will move towards Tata motors and the LR will more to the jaguar line. especially now that jaguar has an SUV.

So you would prefer Land Rover go out of business?
