My Disco project

Ok, guys. I had some people ask for videos and pics of my project. I went to a couple different shops to see what they would charge to rebuild this thing so I could keep making money with my shop. One shop flat out said they wouldn't touch it, and the ones that could do it wanted to charge me $3500-$5982. So I guess I will do it myself and save a crap load of money. I am going to completely rebuild the 4.0 and if I have the time and budget I will rebuild the auto trans (trans is on the back burner for now). I also plan to lift this thing 3" and give it some nice aggressive yet tame rubber, but engine first. If you have any questions or tips let me know and I'll give it my best. I'll help any one the best way I can, and I ask for the same in return. I'll keep you guys posted as I continue to work on this thing. I couldn't get the video to upload on the forum but here is the link.

MI5(Spooks) Seasons 1-9 DVD is, without doubt, the tensest and most dramatic drama currently

Thanks I appreciate it. I'm sure I'll need help along the line at some point.

whats the plan? re-mill heads? gaskets? lower end? what parts do you plan on replacing during the rebuild? new water pump? maybe a hose kit?

wes_roberts Dec 18, 2012 11:03 AM

I'm going to re-mill and rebuild the heads, new gaskets all around, new timing set, re-build oil pump, new water pump, all new vacuum lines (water lines are new), all new bearings, shaved & polished crank, sleeves still good so I honed those for new rings, cam & lifters still good so I don't know if I will replace those (may-be just the lifters?) Tank the radiator, and may-be upgrade to a better fan? and add an oil pressure gauge.... I'm all ears if any of you have suggestions. If the engine fails again down the road,( I don't think I'll be lucky enough to get another re-build from it) I think I will swap in a 350 next time.... Let me know your thoughts...

sounds like you are on the right track. when the engine eventually fails i would look at dropping a om617 in it.

wes_roberts Dec 18, 2012 03:42 PM

Om617 would be nice, but I'm not sure I want to spend that much money on an engine swap. I can do the 350 swap for around $1500, and upgrade the trans under $1000... Has any one done the om617 swap? I'm all ears on it, just want to know whats involved. I can always spread out my purchases that way when I need to do the swap I have everything piled up and ready to go. I would like to hear from someone who has already done it.... Thanks for the idea, I will look into it..
