Thumbs up Pine Barrens, NJ - April 2-3, 2011

Saturday April 2, 2011 - Sunday April 3, 2011
Pine Barrens in southern New Jersey.

We (www.nelrc.com) are planning on heading out to the barrens! I have never been there myself but from what i hear, dependent on the weather it can get VERY muddy. The terrain is mostly sandy. There is also lots of water holes. We are planning on meeting Saturday morning, lunch on the trail Saturday and camping out Saturday evening.

It will be a lot cheaper than Rausch. I believe entrance to Wharton is only $5, but YOUR VEHICLE MUST BE REGISTERED AND INSURED. They do have Forest Rangers that patrol, on the other hand i have heard of people trailering their rigs in as they do have a parking lot if we enter at Basto village.

Hope to see you guys there!

As far as I know there is no charge for wharton. Maybe for camping? All you do is drive to the ranger station and start driving on the trails.

Count me in too

We meet at Wawa, on Rt70 and Rt 539 in Whiting
1180 New Jersey 70
NJ 08759-1003

We head south from there, ending up at the ranger station in Atsion.
There is no fee for driving there, but there is a fee for camping.

I tried looking up any motels near Hawkins bridge. You're looking at a 45 minute drive to the closest one per google maps.
