RE: '84 Land Rover 90 Factory Options
Answers:
1. No
2. All of the standard ones for certain, truck cab, hard top, station wagon.
3. Servo assisted brakes: Yes, power steering: No
4. Discs on front axle only, drums on rear.
5. Dependent on engine fitted - early V8 models, 3 spd auto (I think) or 5 spd manual, 4 cylinder models 5 spd manual
6. Series III's were still in production in parallel with the 90 and 110 until 1985 - worth making sure the '84 has a SALLD prefix chassis not SALLB, coil springs all round and disc brakes on the front before parting with any folding stuff.
Also worth noting that, particularly with 4 cyl models, there's so much space in the engine compartment that retro fitting a suitable a/c and fitting the powered steering from a later Defender would be pretty easy for anyone who is a reasonable spanner monkey.
Standard 4 cyl models in 1984 were the 2.5 litre petrol (gas) and 2.5 litre diesel - neither is very economical and both are horribly under-powered. Transplanting the 4 cyl 200 or 300 Tdi from a post 1990 Defender or Discovery is the best way to dramatically improve the vehicle, costs for the conversion in the UK vary from between £500 to £5,000 depending on the engine and how much you're prepared to spanner yourself. It's still not going to make it 'fast' but at least you won't be losing the Traffic Light Grand Prix to both the milkman and the paper delivery boy on his skateboard.
