Just throwing it out there...maybe your cats have the honeycomb material broken up inside...sounds like what you describe or even marbles..

I would look at your brake pad retainers, they tend to be a wee bit noisy as they get older.

I had a similar noise and thought it was rod tick/knock after a long drive once she was nice and hot. Found out it was the cat that was on its way out! The cat took a shyt so I cut them both out and welded in exhaust tubing. No more knock/ticking noise

By "cat" do you mean the catalytic converter?

Somebody say we're playing a game? Cat and mouse? Oh yeah, I'm in......... anyone seen my cat-train I left near my cat boat, the one with the cat rig. I'm late for my Cat scan, the Doc thinks I have cat scratch fever cuz I got bit by a cat shark. I hope I don't get stuck behind that old lady again cuz she drives her Catillac like it's a Caterpillar.
