Default About to buy 2001 Land Rover Discovery Series II LE

Hey guys, I found a deal that looks amazing, its a 2001 Land Rover Discovery Series II LE for 6k, with 52k miles and CLEAN Carfax, nothing on it.

I was considering getting a 2004 however I have read it has some issues and all, would you guys consider this 2001 as a good buy?

Are there any known problems with the 2001 that I must be aware of?

Thanks.

If you get it inspected by someone who knows Land Rovers and they don't come up with any major issues, then I'd say it was a great buy.

To give you an idea, I just bought a 2002 SE with 109,000 miles for $6950. And that price was right for the condition (according to KBB and Edmunds).

So, with such low mileage, if the condition is good, jump on it. But inspection is a must!!!

It may or may not have the CDL. If it has the CDL i'd jump on that deal, sounds like a good price for such low miles.

Seems like a great deal, especially with those low miles. Get it checked out and jump on it.

Common problems with DII's are head gaskets, front drive-shafts, and the "3 Amigos." There are plenty of threads about each topic, so try a search to find out more details.

And regarding the 2004's....there are no major "issues" that affect only the 2004 more than other Discos....the 2003's and their oil pumps are the culprit.

Good luck with your purchase, sounds like you found a gem.

Check the build date on the 2001, mine is Mar 01 and it has the CDL, but I know they stopped putting the CDL in right around that time, so you need to check. As stated before, there are plenty of threads on locating the CDL nipple on top of the transfer case to be certain. There is always a chance, although unlikely, that someone may have swapped it out to sell and put a non-CDL transfer case in. I have heard stranger things in selling a used car.

Other than that, the other items that have been mentioned need to be checked out. The more service records the better. Records of a coolant change would be nice to see as well. Also, like any used car you will want to know about the tires, brakes, belts & hoses as to when they were changed last so you can determine what your soon to be maintenance cost may be or will those costs be a little further down the road as they have been done recently. Also, take a look at the 60K Mile Service notes as that will coming up on you shortly after your purchase.

Sounds like a good deal, but do have it checked out and best of luck.

looks good! I usually don't like any shade of red for a vehicle color but I like that shade on a rover..I even considered buying one that color.
