Front Driveshaft Replacement - Nuts, Bolts & Procedure
#11
I had to gently use a rubber mallet on the back of mine to get it loose.
Also, just me, I attach the winch cable to another vehicle and just ooch it forward and back (on slight incline) while in neutral to reach all of the nuts and bolts.
Thanks for publishing the bolt sizes. It is always a pain in the butt to figure them out.

Another Bolt option is McMaster Carr part #94622A433 > McMaster-Carr
and other sizes... > McMaster-Carr

Yeah, I kind of knew this going in... but figured it would be a worthwhile exercise in learning about nuts/bolts. And also the whole perfection thing. Going to reuse my bolts and call this one a day! onward

Sometimes as I've found trying to be a perfectionist can get you into more trouble/issues. Dunno how many times I've done something to perfection only to have it rear ended a day later, or try tackling a simple project, go OCD on it, and end up breaking something else.
Wasn't trying to be rude or anything, just saying out of all my years with LR's and Jeep's, and Mitsubishi's (Gen 1 Montero/Pajero's) that I've only ever seen Jeep's shear driveshaft bolts due to them being like M8x1.25's. Our LR's are using much larger bolts x4 and as long as you used nylon lock nuts (like the OEM nuts) you won't have any issues. Lube that new driveshaft at every oil change and you should be good for a longtime.

update: utter defeat. Haha. Turns out the Grade 8 nut's I got at the hardware store are a bit longer than the OEM nuts. Not enough thread on the OEM bolt to pull her through. Ordering OEM nuts now from AB.. For giggles, I tried out my 1 1/2" Grade 8 bolts in the front - they barely fit. About 1/8" space to the flange. Considering the rotation of the drive shaft, 1/8" leaves me feeling uneasy, so I will wait for the new nuts from AB.
moral of the story: Don't try to be a hero. Buy OEM stuff.
Good news - got the old drive shaft off.

Lock nuts in good condition and pass a torque test can be reused on aircraft per the FAA. Do not see why LRs should be any different.
Those that do reuse them should ensure they're good to go.

The nylon is busted on a few of them and the some heads are warped/stripped, so I'm replacing them.
UNBELIEVABLE. The nuts from Atlantic British are too long as well. Threads can't even reach the nylon bit. And they're office was closed today... I don't even know what to do now. Car has been on stands for over 2 weeks now...
