Default Integrated Ultragauge into my dash

So I've had my Ultragauge sit on my coin holder, and everyone always complained how ghetto it looked. So yesterday I was at the junkyard and saw a '95 Disco, and grabbed the center cup holder and unit to go with it. Decided I would integrate my Ultragauge in my dash to give it more of a factory look.

Here's the finished product.

I started by carefully sawing along the green line shown in the picture. I kept at least one screw hole so that the cup holder, and unit would still fasten securely to the dash.

This is essentially what I cut off to make room for the cluster of six buttons to fit.

I then popped the buttons out, and ran my Ultragauge cord through the dash, and to the compartment under the steering column.

The '95 Disco had what looked like a storage holder where the clock would have been, so I got that too, and used it for my Ultragauge to sit in. I notched out a corner on the bottom left for the cord to go through, and then notched off all but one piece of trim so that the gauge would fit in the dash.

Next, I popped it in where the cluster of six buttons would normally be located (it clipped in perfectly!) Then I put a piece of two-sided adhesive where I circled in the picture. The adhesive is strong enough to hold the Ultragauge on, and weak enough for me to pull the gauge off when I need to access the function buttons in the back.

I took another piece of two-sided adhesive and stuck it to the top of the 6-button cluster, and pressed the cluster against the bottom of the dash, giving me my finished product!

Since I was experimenting, it took me approximately three hours to take everything apart, and re-assemble. Now that I've done it once, I'd say it should take maybe 90 minutes.

Thought it turned out pretty well, so I figured I'd share.

Hope ya'll are having a great week!

Can you put filler in to complete the look?

No built-in way to change the color on your ultragauge. Although, you could do what this guy did:

In any case, I think that looks very nice! And would prevent me from getting a ticket (in NJ, you can't have ANYTHING on your windshield other than reg stickers and factory rearview mirror.)

How would you access the buttons on the back to indicate when you fill your tank? Or don't you bother with that at all?

Like he said in his post, the two-sided tape is weak enough for him to pull it off to access the buttons on the back. I had to go back and re-read it again myself. I think I would've used velcro strips, but I'd say that's a pretty good job.

I was thinking about putting filler in, although I don't think I'd have any way to access the buttons in the back unless I were to make something that allowed the Ultragauge to pop out when I need to access the buttons.

I was wondering if they made anything like that! I will be ordering green film today to make it look for factory. Thanks Anthony!

LOL...some days are better than others. I must have had a good tailwind on the highway last night.

That's a great idea! I didn't even think about velcro!

This is why I love this forum

That looks really nice. Would there be a way to cut it so that the UG angled slightly up?

Love the idea
