Default Time for new U Joints?

This has been happening since I have owned my truck and I have just modified my driving habits to reduce the frequency of its occurrence. If I don't very gently apply pressure on the accelerator I hear a pretty loud clunk along with unsettling jerk. I can recreate this sound and action at any speed by taking my foot off the accelerator and reapplying quick pressure on the accelerator. I have pretty much convinced myself that the source of this is the u joints. I have not checked to see if they are serviceable at this point. I just wanted to get a general consensus on my brief explanation.

If they are not greaseable u-joints, get them replaced ASAP. If they are the originals, they can fail. Usually resulting in a large explosion that damages your transmission as well as some other very expensive components.

Yes, what you are hearing is the u-joints failing. My truck did the same thing when my rear most u-joint was failing. If you haven't had your front shaft rebuilt with greaseable u-joints you need to do that immediately before it destroys your transmission.

Frank, why are you even driving it?????????????????????
How often do you lube your u-joints?
If you don't take care of this ASAP, you can loose your tranny also.

Well Mike, never. I have never even looked at them, even while changing O2's and starters, all the while completely aware of the consequences. Any tips on part numbers for NAPA? They surprise me with what they carry. I would like to start the job with everything that I needed. Thanks.

Here's a post from another propshaft thread on here with a couple of pointers that aren't in the pdf.
There are two sets of instructions, the pdf that's floating around and an online one.

Frank, there are advance auto stores in Memphis so that would be the best place to get the parts. Neapco/PDQ 1-0005 u-joints x3 and 7-0081NG.

In the PDF (I've attached it as the old link only works if you have an account on the external site) it states that Spicer doesn't make the 5-4x u-joints. Since I gave Kevin that information Spicer has dropped that part number entirely.
