I recently purchased a 97' Discovery with about 142,000 miles. It's a little rough around the edges but I got a really good deal on it. Although I've worked on vehicles most of my life, (out of neccessity not as a hobby) I know very little about Land Rovers. I also don't know a whole lot about suspension. I was just wondering if this year and model comes standard with the air ride suspension because the one I bought has coils and shocks. It also leans noticeably to one side which seems to be more pronounced in the rear than in the front. Would this be caused by a worn out spring or shock? Any info or tips would be greatly appreciated.
No, Discovery 1's (1994-early 1999) didn't have an air suspension option.
Yes, worn or broken springs will cause it to lean. Mis-matched springs as will as well, but that's not super likely.

in places even more inaccessible.
Rover did not use the best springs on some of their vehicles and as such the trucks had a tendency to drop and or sag once they cleared 50,000 miles. With your mileage, a new set of shocks and springs would make a huge change for the better.

Check your sway bar also to see if its causing it to sit unlevel, make sure the springs look the same and make sure the shocks are working and one is not hung up.
The first of the land rover vehicles circa 1987/1988 leaned to the right to compensate for the off road camber in the UK. This transferred over to the NAS vehicles and they had us swapping springs from side to side etc. IIRC there was a tib for a leaning Discovery 1 and the fix was to identify the colors on the coil springs and replace it/them with a different one or two. any good aftermarket spring kit should solve your problem, and changing out your old ratty shocks would be a good idea too.
