Will LR3 OEM 18" wheels fit on a LR4, need to switch to 18''s for offroad capabilities. If not, who sells 18" for LR4 in California area?

 

I don't believe they will clear the stock brakes on LR4. There are aftermarket wheels in 18" that fit, or you could downgrade your brakes I suppose.

Can we have a discussion about the offset and reasons why this is apparently the only rim that will work? I would like to get a set of 18" rims for general playing around, and I need to understand why an 8x18+44 from any other manufacturer wouldn't work. Especially given that other brands make them in the same hub size and spacing.

 

Scott Brady of Overland Journal successfully used OEM LR3 10-spokes on their LR4.

I want to say they used 1.25" spacers to mount the wheels but otherwise that was the only change. Check out the build log for that truck and you should find it... within the 100 pages or so.

With the spacers the wheels should be able to clear the calipers.

EDIT: Theoretically this would allow you to use any 18" OEM wheel from the LR3's but all I know is that they did it with the 10-spoke model.

Using a 1.25" spacer is a no-go from the start. I don't like the idea of spacers to begin with, and that seems like more of a danger than any benefit gained from the sidewall on an 18" compared to a 20". I'm still sticking by my question regarding WHY other 18" rims don't fit. Is it the machining? Because I can't think of any other spec that the "only rims that fit" would have different than anything else you could spec out from any other manufacturer.

 

You're absolutely free to disagree but they did do a whole lot of testing for fit and stability. Danger? There I'll politely disagree myself. I think they'd say something else about the benefits of that extra bit of sidewall. IMO if Overland Journal used spacers and they worked I'd feel comfortable doing the same. Especially on a modded 4 with quite a bit of extra weight. They do considerably more offroad than I do.

I want to say the fitting problem is one of getting a wheel with enough strength compared to the LR OEM specs that also has enough depth and clearance for the brake calipers on the V8 models. TDV6 models have smaller calipers and discs so they have better selection AFAIK.

I will say having looked at the compmotives in black for a while now that's what I'd go with if I had a 4. They look excellent.

 

There are very few options out there that look good and meet specs needed to fit. You need a -35 (8.5" wheel)to -44 (8" wheel) offset, 5x120 bolt pattern and 2000lbs+ rated. 8.5" wheels may need small amount of trimming. I have been looking for months, i like compomotive but not the price!
