2005 Land Rover LR3 – Adventure Ready & Fully Sorted
For Sale2005 Land Rover LR3
Description:
The Ultimate Dual-Purpose Rig
This is the most capable off-road vehicle I’ve owned, yet it remains remarkably smooth for daily driving. It has been built with no expense spared for reliability and performance in the backcountry. If you know the LR3, you know the 4.4L V8 is the engine to have. This is a Southwest vehicle with zero frame rust, meticulously maintained and ready for its next expedition.
The Build (Over $30k Invested):
Suspension/Drivetrain: Full Old Man Emu (OME) 2.5” lift with coilovers (Air Suspension Delete for ultimate trail reliability). ARB Air Locker in the rear diff. Onboard Viair compressor ( used for airing up tires e.g.).
Armor & Recovery: Land Rover OEM steel skids. Steel front bumper with a Smittybilt winch and Hi-Lift jack. Custom rear bumper with a swing-out spare mount and full-size spare. Safari snorkel for dust/water intake protection.
Storage & Lighting: Full Voyager roof rack. Overhead trail lights, grille LED bar, LED fogs, and rear bumper reverse LEDs.
Extras: Wired for CB (radio included), Bluetooth audio adapter, and includes an OBDII controller with LR3-specific software for DIY diagnostics.
Recent Maintenance (Peace of Mind):
I’ve addressed every major LR3 "wear item" so you don’t have to. Within the last 2 years/15k miles, I have replaced/serviced:
Suspension: New front/rear control arms (uppers & lowers) + 4-wheel alignment.
Drivetrain: New driveshaft, front/rear diff fluid flush, and full transmission service (filter/fluid).
Engine: New spark plugs/coils, power steering pump, drive belt, EGR valve, thermostat manifold, and engine oil cooler.
Misc: New windshield, battery, brake pads/rotors, and new exhaust manifold gaskets.
Interior & Comfort:
Rare 3rd-row seating (7-seater).
Tan leather in good condition.
The "Camper" Advantage: All rear seats fold completely flat. I am 5’10” and have slept comfortably in the back many nights—perfect for stealth camping.
The Honest Details (The "Bad"):
Cosmetic: Typical cracked plastic dash (common LR3 issue) and a cracked aft roof window (never leaked during my ownership).
Mechanical: Fog lights are currently non-functional (likely simple wiring); rear mufflers have some trail dents but no leaks; will need new tires soon.
Note: Using a non-stock washer fluid reservoir.
Price: $23,000
I have over $30k into this build. I am being forced to sell my beloved rig, but am in no hurry to let it go for a low-ball offer. If you want a rig that can crawl the Gila in the morning and cruise the highway at 75mph in the afternoon, this is it.
