2021 Order VS 2020 Stock
Ok, I want to put this out and see what you all think........ I ordered my Defender mid October, it’s suppose to be in in the next 2 weeks. My dealer has a 2020 Defender on the lot, which has been there since Late November, it’s similar to what I ordered, but more options, ie moonroof, 22” wheels, center console refrigerator, coupe other little things, It’s about 8K more than what I ordered. I was thinking of telling them, I may consider taking the stock one off your hands if they can discount it lower than what I ordered. My only reservation is that it’s a 2020, though it’s a late model, wondering what the factory corrected for that 2021 year? I am assuming things issues were adjusted for 2021. Just a thought to get some ideas......I have the mindset now to just wait, but it’s always fun to try to dangle the carrot.

I don't think you could get them to drop almost $8k off the price just because they have one on the lot. Even if it is a 2020. I am not sure they have corrected anything from the 2020 to 2021 variants, other than some colors. More than likely the 2021 will come with some of the same issues the 2020 have. I could be wrong, but that's my opinion. You can always try to haggle, that's up to the buyer. As for the rest, I don't know that the 2021 will be better than the 2020. Time will tell.

that was my experience along w the incentive. You’d want to balance between new inventory arriving and the 20s still sitting there; like a larger dealership I’d guess. 10% ? That’s year end model change - but perhaps shoot for 5. Put dealers against each other .

floorplan costs start around 60 days. Even then it might warrant a thousand or two more discount. Strange that this particular unit hasn’t sold. Over here, the more well equipped cars sell faster. They can’t keep X’s in stock for more than a day. I’d be surprised if you get more than 2-3k off.

If it was a 2020 HSE, I'd try to grab it for the right price just to have the full leather Windsor seats, which are great. Can't get those anymore on a 2021, they are all a mix of leather and fabrics with fancy names, which I am not crazy about personally as the fabric is surely very durable but gets dirty in a hurry. On the minus side, you may regret the expensive 22" wheels - with little cushioning from those rubber band tires they will be strictly for road use, and those roads better be smooth or your ride quality may suffer quite a bit. Otherwise, differences between model years should just be cosmetic - mostly exterior and interior color combos. Infotainment features (and bugs) are likely to be the same between model years - since these systems are the same and all receive the same software patches over time. No new features or engines here in North America, but 2021s are supposed to come with the latest Dana Spicer AdvanTEK axles compared to 2020s, which may or may not matter to you (depending on how much you'll off-road your new Defender...)
