22 Defender shuts off/stalls when idle due to faulty auto-stop/start
So I got my 2022 Defender 110 last month. I have around 700 miles on it now. On the first day, the car stalled as I was idle at a long light, meaning it just shut off and I had to restart the car and put it in drive again.
This has happened multiple times now and is extremely frustrating. Only way around it is to remember to turn off auto-stop/start every time I start the car, which is unacceptable after dropping $90K on this thing (first world problem, I know).
I took it into service yesterday to address it and a few other things, and the service rep told me that it’s a known issue on the 2020, 21, and 22’s, which means (1) they haven’t been able to come up with a fix in years, and (2) they’re continuing to sell new vehicles that have a major faulty system, which is unbelievable to me. I’m a Lexus lifer and have never experienced something like this and decided to go out of my comfort zone since I really liked the look of this thing.
The CarPlay tends to go out at times, and loses connection, which the rep said is a common issue as well.
The entire time he just was like, “these cars are not known for their reliability.” Pretty much saying it’s something I just have to deal with.
Is this just how it is to drive Land Rovers? I don’t want to keep taking this to the shop while having to get in some beat up loaner regularly.
Due to demand, I can sell this thing at a profit right now it seems, which I may do if this is what my future holds.
Has anyone been able to resolve this issue?

As a previous "Lexus lifer", buying a Land Rover is a drastic change. Give yourself credit for a brave move. You are no longer driving a Toyota transportation appliance dressed up in a Lexus tux. Most that made this change either quickly give up or learn to accept the "personality", quirks and amazing capability a Land Rover provides.
Turning off the autostop at every start-up will become automatic. We also have a Honda Passport that our kids drive and every single person in our family presses the Passport's autostop off button right after the start button. Every driver, every time.
Your Defender autostop may go away. Mine worked the first week or so but vanished for the last 12 months and 20K miles. If this stupid feature actually worked, I would just add the extra button push to my start-up sequence. It could be worse, BMW removed the autostop off button entirely on the 2022 X5 40i. Same issue on my brother's new Traverse.

auto stop/start generally works fine on mine. My suspicion - your battery isn't topped up. Mine only ever did anything odd like shut down while on an extended stop when I hadn't driven it much and the battery was low. With an occasional top up, I don't see these issues.
The other issue is dealers don't seem to be doing a good job explaining how half of these systems work on handover, and people don't seem to RTFM these days.
If you are still using a software version prior to 3.0 your CarPlay will be wired - and that was flaky. With the 3.0 software, wireless CarPlay was enabled and the connection is very stable.

This topic comes up periodically. You can also remove a black wire from the battery (I believe the one under the passenger seat). Do an Advanced Search and you can find more details. Basically, it disables the feature. You will read a lot of Pros/Cons on what this will, may, can, might do in addition to stopping the AutoStop.

I had the same auto stop/start issue once but it went away after a software update - plus its the first thing I disable when I get in the car anyways. I hate stepping on the gas at a light and then having to wait while it turns on. I don't know of many new cars that offer similar features of the defender that also don't force auto stop/start. Most new cars make you jump through a series of buttons to get it off.
On CarPlay - based on my own research, thats not really a Land Rover issue but a broader CarPlay issue. They've been working on improving the connection for years and are getting good at it. Mine very rarely drops out but when it does its because I'm either near a radio station or I'm completely out of service. Its not perfect but also can't fault LR for that.

Re the OP description: are you saying that you have a complete power down of the entire vehicle systems (I.e. instruments, infotainment systems etc) in the car when the auto engine stop is activated? I guess I need to do a thorough search on this forum ‘cus I’ve never heard of it before. I’ve always disliked auto start/stop in new cars (damn you Californians!). But I find it to be fairly unobtrusive in the Defender. I did not like it in my wife’s Velar—particularly on startup. Anyway, it would be helpful if you could explain in more detail what is happening. I assume that when you lift your foot off the brake pedal, the car is completely dead and all electronic systems are down. Hence the need to restart the engine.
Who is your dealer? sounds like they know not what they are doing if they can’t fix it. If they really are that inept, then go elsewhere or try the auto start/stop disable hack that’s been mentioned.
As for CarPlay, I’ve not had any issues with it. The vast majority off issues I have seen in other vehicles is with the apple lightning connector on the iPhone (filled with pocket lint) and also with non-OEM cables that last barely 5 minutes before you start seeing connectivity issues. Given there is way more data transfer with mirroring than with just a simple Bluetooth connection, having a clean connection from phone to infotainment system is important. Since Pivi-Pro 3.0, wireless connection has been 100% reliable. I no longer use hardwire connection.

I had the similar issue in the first few months. A couple of times it shut off shortly after starting up...that could have been a very bad accident. It was an obscene issue but fortunately it hasn't resurfaced in several months (I purchased my 110 X in Nov 2020). Even though it hasn't resurfaced, I still shift into Sport mode when taking left turns now. I hope no one has gotten seriously hurt by this issue. LR would (and should) be looking at one hell of a lawsuit if this causes an accident for someone.
