Turbos have intrinsic lag from idle due to the time it takes to spin them up. This is normal, including in my own new P300. The advantage is the very substantial extra power you get once they do get past the momentary lag.

Is this something new that you have detected in your car? If so, you should take it to your dealer. If not, well, you could trade it in on a non-turbo, lag-free, supercharged V8 version.

Install a Pedal Commander - it makes a tremendous difference.

It shouldn't be super laggy. I have the same engine, and while there is some turbo lag at wide-open-throttle under 3000 rpm, it isn't super noticeable. Besides, nobody ever puts their foot to the carpet from a stop. Since peak torque comes in at 1500 rpm, it does mask the turbo lag most of the time. This engine uses a twin-scroll turbocharger, which is a single turbo with dual exhaust channels. This allows the turbo to spool more quickly than a traditional turbocharger and allows for more boost throughout the rev range.

If you are on the highway and experiencing some lag when you floor it, it is probably the transmission kickdown, which sometimes can take a moment. Best way to remedy this is to keep the transmission in sport. Just kick the gear selector to the left when in drive. Kickdown will be improved. You can further improve kickdown by activating Dynamic mode with a GAP tool or through a company that offers feature activations.

No acceleration lag here, I would see the dealer if you are experiencing that. I get a smile on my face every time I stomp the gas and feel the g’s and marvel at how quick this big, boxy truck feels and how quickly I can pass other vehicles on the highway. And the electric supercharger only augments the turbo boost.

does pedal commander, or pedalbox, do significantly more than sport mode in the p300?

I have 0 lag on my P300. As mentioned above the 4cyl hits peak torque at 1500rpm. You would need to be slamming that pedal to the floor in order to feel anything laggy.

If you're feeling that under normal operating conditions I would bring it in and have it checked out. Good time for an oil change anyhow..

I would get it looked at. My 23 P300 with 11k miles has exceptional throttle response--way better than the P400 I test drove, and the confirmation I needed to save the $10k.

How is it in sport / dynamic mode? That sharpens up throttle response.

Only the V8 Defenders come with Dynamic mode. It has to be programmed on P300 & P400 vehicles.
