Default Bad Design: Wipers

I live in North East PA and have had the Defender since November…. I’ve gotten to drive it through a couple of hard snows and I have to say, the wipers are absolutely terrible in a decent snow. The ends start to accumulate ice and snow and actually accumulate so much they pull away from the window by about 3 inches on the ends. I’ve owned cars from all of the luxury brands as well as Jeep, Ford, etc. and I’ve never experienced this. I have the wind noise coming form the pillar on the passenger side (North America) and have had the issues with the tech but to date, this is the most disappointing thing I’ve experienced. Anyone else? Can it be fixed by simply swapping out the wipers?

Are you activating the heated windshield? It doesn’t stay on as long as I’d like, but cycling it keeps ice from accumulating too badly for me.

I make frequent ski trips to VT (not so much this season) and always install winter wiper blades. The rubber stays more flexible and some have a rubber boot so that snow doesn't accumulate on the blades. I have Trico Ice brand wiper blades on now.

No problems here, I make weekly trips between NYC and the Catskills region, just this last Friday I drove through a blizzard without issue.

Yes, that was my first thought (heated windshield). It accumulates on the very tip and only when driving and using the wipers during heavy snow. Another gentleman in a similar forum mentions a similar issue so perhaps its a bad batch of wipers? It’s not the end of the world, just inconvenient.

Fronts on ours work fine, its' the back one that drives me nuts......fluid only comes out of bottom half, so the part above the tire never clears....

Yeah, same. But I feel like that is par for the course with rear windshields on these types of vehicles. To be honest, once I got used to the video rear view mirror I’ve not switched back so I couldn’t even tell you what my rear windshield looks like (probably covered with road salt and mud at this point).

I live in Ontario and got my Defender this past summer. Now its December and finding the design is exceptionally poor. The fluid sprayers clog/freeze and the way they spray from the blade arm is useless. Rear wiper is just as bad. Ontario uses a lot of salt on the roads, so we have to constantly clean the film off the windscreen...and between the problem that 2020Defend3r noted above and the fluid-spray problem, I feel leery to drive it in the winter! Do I have faulty wipers? And yes, I am going to the dealer with the problem, but I am wondering if this is a more prevalent design-issue?

While there’s an active thread on this do you guys hear the wiper motor, a faint swipe wiper motor whine when they go back and forth? My son said it sounds like a crow in the distance. Caw-caw. Haha. It’s hard to explain — not sure if it’s normal or not.
