Default Dealers Hidden Costs

Hi,
I am in the process of buying a D130. I am not 100% locked in and looking for nice options. One thing all dealers in my area have is a treatment of the vehicle. Sometimes you find this under "interior & exterior protection" with names like "XZILON" or "PWC MAX SHIELD". The dealer usually charges $3,5k-4k. Is this actually scam or a real thing that helps the vehicle protection? Have you seen it at your dealer?

Scam. Don’t pay it unless you have to.

Dealer scam. Like blinker fluid or them flogging you a prepaid maintenance. (Usually equates to one oil change and a brake flush at 21k miles. )

I also think this is scam. Regarding Maintenance, can someone post what is the usual 3 year cost? First three services?

It's a scam - mine tried to sneak it in on the final contact - I firmly and politely directed them to remove it.

It was already on mine (or something similar) when I purchased and the price would not be removed. I would not have opted for it. However it is noticeably holding up well. Still I would have preferred to have it done third party.

this is for P400 P300 D300 D250

you can get the same done cheaper elsewhere. Total scam.

1000% a scam. Not a particularly subtle one either at 4k? Wow. Usually I've seen it at the $1000 range.

I would think long and hard about buying a vehicle from a dealership that's looking to bend people over like this. Chances are you're going to have to bring it back in to them for service etc so you're going to be 'wedded' to them for years like it or not. Chances are there won't be another JLR dealer in the same vicinity. Premium vehicle dealerships usually have a pretty big cushion, you'll have one Audi/Porsche in the city, a Mercedes dealership, BMW, Alfa etc... whomever does it 'best' in your area might be the way to go IMO. If that's JLR fine but from the sounds of a 4k 'treatment' I would guess not...

My JLR dealer wasn't bad, they had nothing like these treatments baked into the pricing, you just ordered what you wanted and took delivery. I only bailed because I had far too many nagging issues with the car especially given the size of the payment. I would consider doing business with my local JLR dealership again at some point. For a lease or whatever.

i second this b/c these vehicles will be back at the dealer more than likely and you need one you can trust. Sure it may be under warranty, but they’ll chintz in repairs that could cost longevity later if you wish to keep it long term.

Find a good dealer.
