Default Defender $100K markup!

This has to be the most ridiculous dealer markup I have seen on a Defender. Yes, I know it is a rare V8, but $100k markup?!? For giggles I had to go and have a look and see if it wasn't just a typo. It wasn't.

AND it's preowned! Many dealers are asking between $20-30k markups for the V8s. $100k is absolutely insane!

So bad. I don't know if it hurts the brand, but it definitely hurts the dealer. I would NEVER set foot in a dealership that tried something like this. Maybe it's just me...

I doubt it would hurt the brand ? No reason why.
Hurts the dealer ? there is no bad publicity ( made ya' look, right ? ?)
Now, if it proves anything, it proves the stupidity of the dealer. I doubt that there will be people lining up to buy it.
Folks who have that kind of money, would probably spend the money and buy new, and the ones who don't, they will just shake their heads.
Underneath is the same v8 with stupidly priced bells and whistles.

The sad truth is these markups exist because someone is willing to pay. Not me or most consumers, but someone out there is, and if not, the prices will eventually come down. The dealer I got my 90X from has a V8 110 listed for 199,999 (81k markup). I was pretty shocked, but I guess that's what the market is saying these things are worth right now.

When they resurrected the L663, I knew it would be crazy to pass it up. In the US, they were only here for a few years and I figured the same would happen with the current Defender. In a unique instance of me actually predicting something, they have not only held their value but have gone just the way of the '90's versions. For a future prediction where these will go, I offer up an e-mail I got today re: a Defender I was watching on an auction site. This is a 30 year old Defender. Yes, it is in great shape, but it smokes most other trucks/suv's/non muscle cars of the era in terms of appreciation. BTW - Original MSRP was a whopping (for the time) $32,000. This was when the MSRP for a Ford F-150 was $22,500 for comparison.

They've held their value because of production constraints coupled with increased demand at launch. Supply and demand will eventually meet and the values will fall. US NAS Defenders were imported for 4 years in extremely limited quantities. The two trucks are not comparable.
