Elektron, What is this enhanced engine sound that you speak of? What year, model and size motor is your defender? We need more info from you.

It is 3,0 diesel with MHEV, model year 2022 with standard audio (non Meridian) , oem amp plays subbas/buzzing tone (about 40-80hz) through the front speakers but only between 1000 - 1200 rpm region.
Also when car stops and is not drive. No matter, what volume of the head unit, it is still the same level of buzzing tone.
I need to de-code this terrible function. Could you help please?
It seems to be "Active sound design".

That sounds like a fault with the sound system as my 2022 D250 MHEV certainly doesn't do this.

Try updating the software or resetting the system.

No, I really need to deactivate this function. You do not hear this because you have got stock/oem speakers and front speakers are out of phase. This is one of reasons, why these cars sounds so terrible, also with expensier Meridian audio system (which use same speakers added with small midrange and more channel amp).

If it sounds ok, there are only two reasons :
1. your ears are totally out of order.
2. you never hear any real quality car stereo system.

l installed car audio professionally for 32 years, stopped doing it around five years ago.

This system sounds okay.

l could of course install a much better system and it needs a sub above all else.

But it's far from offensive to listen to. l've heard a lot worse including a lot of new "line fit" systems on regular cars.

l've not had the door panels off, maybe mine was fitted with premium speakers due to shortages of parts.

But there's definitely only two speakers in each door.

l've listened to a Meridian system in a 2021 110 and have to say l wasn't impressed with that.

Basic and Meridian system uses same midbass and tweeters in these cars. Meridian has got added midrange speakers in doors (3way system), front small plastic subwoofer, center channel speaker and more channel amp (amp seems to be same in all versions, but coded and pinned differently). Biggest problem of these cars are rattling (cause terrible plastic parts) and very noisy doors without any sound absorbing material (very weird in such price category of a car) and those crappy cheap speakers.

Yes there's a big difference there, l am surprised the standard speakers sound as good as they do to be honest after looking at those pictures.

l do intend to fit better mid bass speakers which may partially compensate for the lack of the under seat subwoofer.
l will also put some sound deadening mat on the inside of the door skins.

Sadly retrofitting the under seat subwoofer is not by any means an easy task. l've made several enquiries and got nowhere.

l would also like to reinstate the missing rear speakers (in my 90 Commercial) when l remove the bulkhead

But it seems that's no easy task either.
