Default Defender makes G63 look like a toy

I parked next to a Mercedes G63 and was shocked sitting side by side how wimpy the G63 looked. I think the owner of the G63 was feeling bad after seeing them together.

Yeah, I'm sure he was super jealous of your 4-cylinder Land Rover.

Fair point that he has a bigger engine. With that said He also paid over $100,000 more. Is it 3 times better?

Yes ... in fact I'm guessing more people bought them for value than those who bought them because they like them.

G is a very capable vehicle that's cool and all but looks like the king of all postal trucks imo. If I had that kind of money to burn it would be on my short list but I'd go for the 8 cyl Defender all day long if given the option.

Willing to bet that particular G Wagen will still be driving around long after that Defender is in a scrap heap. They are completely over engineered for a looooong service life, much in the way a Landcruiser is. I have some qualms about the twin turbo engine in that regard but that car itself is SOLID. My Defender is a rattletrap by comparison.

Hate to rain on your parade but the G63 is superior to the new Defender. Your photo doesn't really do any of them justice, certainly not the Gwagen. This is the second post of someone trying to compare the Gwagen to the new Defender. They are nothing alike. I go to a Mercedes dealership once a week and the only two they have on the showroom floor are absolutely stunning to see inside and out. Wimpy they are not.

Over engineered doesn't actually mean it's better, just look at a first generation Touareg or Phaeton. Truth is that the G wagons are not land cruisers and are actually far from them. They aren't a reliable vehicle and the only reason someone is willing to throw money at them is because of the hype factor contributing to the 2nd hand value. Truth is that a new defender is far superior from an off road and on road perspective.
