Default Expedition Rack

I've been looking for a source for the LR Expedition Rack as apparently they are on back order via the dealer. Anyone else looking for one found a source or are we all in the same boat in terms of just waiting till LR sends some more over in 1-3 months?

I believe these are manufactured by Thule for Land Rover. Unfortunately, I don't think you can order direct.

@mlw911 - We all have differences in what we like when it comes to style. Personally, I like my Expedition Rack, but I wish I didn't order it with the Defender. If I had a do-over, I would have gone with the FrontRunner (Link). It is way more versatile if you are actually going to put stuff up there. Also, lots more available "stuff" to add to it. The LR Expedition has better style but definitely not better function. Heck, I would sell you mine but I've already started modifying it and if you want OEM, you likely don't want my holes.

Check it out and good luck either way.

My dealer was able to get one from another dealer a few months back in a week after they told me it could be 6-8 weeks / backordered. I'd just pay for it and put the pressure on the parts guy. My dealer seems to be getting a few a month for either new cars or customer orders (like mine).

PS I really like it. Not noisy at all. Bit of bass-resonance if the large pano roof is opened without opening the in-car windows but .. that's to be expected.

Thanks GrouseK9! I do like the Frontrunner but based on my measurements it won't fit in my garage unfortunately. LR expedition will just fit.

I actually have both. The Frontrunner defiantly has more mounting options. It turns out I really don't want that much stuff up there. Personal thing, but the more you put up there, the worse the vehicle corners. I really only put two things on the rack, aside from the occasional really long thing from Home Depot: a Roof Top Tent and some spare fuel. Both mount perfectly fine on both. The Front Runner is a tad noisier, but we are really splitting hairs here. The Factory Rack is easier to remove. I do tend to take it off when I don't need it. I also do not like the standard Front Runner mounts, I make my own, did for the Range Rover as well. I too have an unfortunately low garage entrance as well. In fact, when I first drove the Defender home, the rack was factory installed, I stopped and drove the rack up to the entrance, got out checked and then entered. Yep tight. Even with my home grown style mounts, the Front Runner is too tight (it is physically thicker). Fits, but not with enough margin in case of tiny suspensions vagaries, tire pressure changes and such. So it looks like I will eventually sell the Front Runner, two racks is a bit of an affectation (it is on the for sale section, BTW). Besides, If I just need the RTT I can also just put it on the cross bars, which I have as well (Thule makes a set of mounts that use standard Wing Bars, substantially cheaper if you order them from Europe, Bikeinn is the place) Lighter is better and they are a ton cheaper. I made a ladder shovel mount that fits on the spare, way, way easier to access. I actually use both of them a lot. It sucked getting them off the rack all the time.

I'm a fan of the OEM rack.

Get yourself a handful of Thule M6 bolts and mount whatever you want.

Also useful for establishing the high ground if errant Broncos are encountered.

I think the FR one looks pretty good too. Definitely more functional WRT awnings and things like that.

Some for sale. Plenty more options.

New from Ali Express

New on Ebay
