Defender should have less issues than the LR4 between 100K and 150K miles. Hopefully no FoMoCo plastic coolant manifold and plastic coolant lines that get brittle, crack and kill the engine, Or leaking a valve cover gasket that drips oil directly into the alternator. I bet you do need to eventually replace the Defender air suspension compressor as it will get louder and slower with wear. I'm thinking the first 150K miles in a Defender should be mostly trouble free.

I recently had a coolant leak and when I looked at what they replaced, it was a bunch of plastic coolant hoses around the turbo and front of engine. There are LOTS of plastic coolant fittings and hoses on the P400. I would say at 8-10 years we're going to be replacing them all.

I'm at 28k on my MY21 P300 and have had a new aux radiator and just recently a new alternator. Both under warranty, of course, just hoping I get these issues all resolved before it runs out.

The alternator issue left me stranded. I have had various LRs over the last 20 years and the Defender is actually the first one to leave me on the side of the road. My '98 Disco might rattle down the road, but in 20 years of ownership, I've always been able to get it home.

Nevertheless, I love my Defender and have no intention of getting rid of it. But after the alternator issue, we are still building some trust back.

I have 39K miles on my 2020 P300 D110. I purposely minimized any electronic doo-dads, to avoid that whole topic as a reason to go to the dealer. As well, I let other's pioneer the passive hybrid system of the P400 -- and also so I could purchase factory 18" wheels and save $10K..

No serious issues. No visits to the dealer for anything impacting the vehicle's usability. No new brakes (yet) -- very surprised when compared to my 2016 Evoque (lots of zoom zoom mountain road driving!) and the LR4. No breakdowns on the side of the road. No self-rescuing necessary off-road (incredible).

Next week, I have my 4th visit to the dealer to make one last attempt to fix the A-pillar cover on the U.S. driver's side. If they fail to execute properly again, I will permanently affix the cover myself.

During the same visit next week, I will have the 42K mile service completed and change the transmission fluid (I use the Defender to tow a horse trailer).

My two LR4s are at 50K and 150K miles with no serious issues -- but with an awareness that maintenance needs are expensive and relentless and a couple design flaws (see comments by PaulLR) exist which are always a threat to the vehicle continuing to operate.

On-road, I prefer the LR4, off-road the Defender.

Enjoy !!

Just passed 50k miles on my 21 P300 110. Besides a couple annoying creeks and rattles the only real issue was one of the auxiliary radiators leaking extremely slowly, it was replaced under warranty. Knock on wood but our Defender has been been extremely reliable and durable. Out of the 50k miles I would say about ~3k has been spent off road, combo of mild dirt trails/ forest roads, BDR's and some more intense rock crawling up in Moab. With that being said, I just purchased an extended warranty through Land Rover Denver for some peace of mind.

FWIW I am about to get my diff and transfer case fluids swapped with my next oil change, I had the service tech check them and they were looking pretty dirty. They recommended I swap my trans fluid as well in about ~20k miles. I asked them to do a thorough Safety Inspection during my next service to check bolts, fittings, pipes, etc. so will report back if they find anything questionable.

My 2022 Defemder 90 Commercial was a "one off" purchase due to a covid tax incentive in the U.K. which has now ended.

Otherwise there's no way l would be driving round in a U.K.£ 55,000 truck.

So, l will be keeping it. l am in business and use it all day everyday so it will be interesting to see how it holds up in years to come.

Fortunately there's a very good independent Land Rover specialist near to me, which means l won't need to rely on the LR dealer.

My Defender is the "lead in" specification (coil springs, cloth seats, steel wheels) so has the minimum extra tech installed. This was mainly due to budget constraints.

P300 D90 at 25k miles, zero issue so far.

Plan to keep it to 7 years/100k miles whichever comes first.

Hoping to replace it with an all electric defender D90

Update:

I am now at 52K miles in my P300 2020 110S Defender. Warranty ended at 50K. I had the radiator leak fixed just before the warranty ran-out (one of the auxillary radiators had a slow leak, similar to what others have noted).

No other issues worth mentioning, except for the driver's side A-pillar failure is back AGAIN (4th time or so?). This time the outer cover came off at 75 mph -- but wow, is the inner mounting plate heavily glued on now (a good thing). The failure mode was the upper most clip of the outer cover has been ripped away - air must have gotten beneath it.

For now, the outer cover is in the back and I will deal with it myself sometime -- will probably rivet it on. Definitely no dealer visit. I am in no rush.

My only electronic glitch is very seldomly I lose all radio. But, it always comes back. I continued to be surprised at my brake wear rate being so low. I think I drive more sedately than ever before, I guess.

The seats continue to become stained and stay that way. And the off-road capability continues to impress . No replacement vehicle on the horizon for me.

Enjoy !!

I'm guessing 75% + are probably leased
