I'm not too concerned over the tail lights and didn't ask how long for them to come in. I had to use a 4400 lumen nitecore point blank to get them to shut off. I told them I'd just take the car back if we had to wait for parts. I'd rather have the leaking front suspension fixed first any way. Supposed to be done early next week. I'll get more details when I pick it up.

I don't think I would care either if I already had mine.

The rest of us poor waiting bastards are trying to figure out how much extra time, if any, this will add to our builds. Obviously LR isn't going to tell us so it's all on you to find out. Thanks!

I have seen a few videos of people with the red taillights getting them to turn off. Its crazy how JLR does not share this info with their dealers.
This is the way they avoid recalls on current vehicles. They disavow any knowledge of a problem until they get poked by NHTSA or a lawsuit regarding something that should have been recalled. Imagine a company as big as JLR not testing the lights on other models when the X with smoked lights had the issue. Head in the sand. Heck, some dealers don't know whether the Defender plant is closed or open!

In real life I don't think it will turn it off.

Picked mine up from the dealer this morning. They said there will likely be a recall for the red tail lights and that I should look out for a notice in the mail. Sounds like land rover will be replacing a lot of tail lights. No indication of when the recall will happen or how long it will take to get the replacement lights.

Not sure it's limited to the X model, I shined a high power led flashlight on my rear lights and seemed when I hit the back up lights that side went out. A little concerning because I got a warning on the screen stating a malfunction. Left side turn signals quit working also. It took a few tries to reset it.
Mine is a 20.5 P400 110.

It's virtually every Defender regardless of tail light smoked or plain red. Most people don't get a warning on failure so at least you have that to let you know they need to be reset. As of now, although NHTSA knows of the issue with all taillights, they have not required JLR to effect a recall, which is sort of a PITA. The sooner JLR is forced to recall the vehicles the quicker they will start pushing out new taillight assemblies so we can all have retrofits. .

Default Tail Lights Fixed

Well I got my tail light assemblies replaced today at my local dealer. Got the recall notice a few months ago followed by another letter 2 weeks go saying, go ahead and book your slot, the parts are ready. Took about 3hrs and when I got the vehicle back I ran the same test as I did before (very powerful LED light) and all seems well, nothing switched off as before. So a happy ending I guess…
