I love Elephant Hill and Beef Basin passionately and he did a great job of capturing a small bit of the mystery and majesty of the area. It’s great to see that a 110 fits through the squeezes of Elephant Hill. Don’t know if I would have tried it with mine; it’s close with a JK-era Wrangler. But now that I know the dang thing fits I’ll enjoy doing EH when I drive out there next. I’ve only watched the first adventure but will enjoy settling in for the rest of it later today. Thanks again!

I always imagine that before I leave. 95% of my southwestern off-roading is just my vehicle, and probably 70% of it is just me in that vehicle. I never drive farther from a roadhead than I am prepared to walk back to. I have a full camping backpack in the Jeep (and will in the 110), and boots so I can do that. I have at least a 5-gallon water can and small containers to decant it to so I can carry what I need in the backpack.
Since I intersperse 50-70-mile backpacking trips with my Jeeping trips, and there’s hardly anywhere you can go in a 4x4 in the CONUS that’s farther than that from a paved road, a broken Landie would just mean (at worst) an unplanned backpacking trip and a ride back out to the truck to either fix it or tow it.
That said, I’d MUCH rather drive out than walk out, every time. But going solo is a fantastic adder to the trip and to your skill set. Not every time of course, but having that ability and using it regularly is a great thing. Solitude is vastly under-appreciated.

Not sure if he carried a extra container of gasoline and can you fill it up normally like old times or is there a valve in it like the no cap fill. I'm sure the range of the D2 was not 400 miles? I carry tire plugs just in case in my Escalade when we travel cross country.

We needed the fuel from the first 5-gallon can, but not the second.
