I test drove an x5 last week and was unimpressed. Lots of plastic parts in the interior for a lux vehicle. And no off road capability. Plus it’s slow compared to the v6 defender’s 400hp and 400torque. Less storage room, etc. looks cool though with the M package. The self park feature was cool too. I test drove it hoping maybe it would win me over and I wouldn’t have to continue waiting for the defender I have ordered to be delivered.

but ultimately like you said, there’s tons of x5’s avail. Resale will be worse with the x5 compared to the defender in a couple years.

Test drive the M50i with 523 HP. Borderline ridiculous. Yet somehow I get 23 mpg highway with it, which is about the same highway mileage our P400 Defender gets.

yeah, I bet that one is fun! I drove the 40i when I went in. The listed mpg on that car was unexpected

I dont understand the confusion.

Is it the number of vehicles, aka the supply? Because that seems too obvious. BMW produced 433k x vehicles last year, LR produced 85k so 20%~ Which tracks with your used car # search. As these total units are world wide and the vast majority of x models are made and sold in america, unlike the LR.

As for the vehicle, its not quite apples to oranges, but it is Suv vs sUv in that one is a utility vehicle, and the other a sports truck. Both are failures in luxury, but maybe not so much at their price point. But neither of them were built for that.
