I was in 4 LO. I believe I recall trying it in 4 HI, no problem. Not certain though.

The reason it is a special feature is that the driver loses any control of the brakes and throttle. Once you press either pedal the feature is decoupled / over-ridden.

The fuel metering and braking pressure sensitivities employed are much greater than what a driver can execute. So too, it is using torque sensitivity levels behond what a driver can duplicate and a logic beyond the driver. The tires are just barely turning at the momement of start -- way less than when idling in an old-style automatic transmission vehicle.

The driver is solely along for the ride. Very disconcerting.

So if I get this right, once you turn it on you put your feet flat on the floor? Just steer because as soon as you touch a pedal it turns off? I'm hoping for snow in Central Texas so I can try it out. In fact, there's a horse rink nearby that I may just practice it in the "sand" mode.

Never mind. These helped a lot:

Brief but good video on how to turn it on. After the PiviPro interface, stop watching as most of it is the driver just going uphill.

Long but excellent video. Shows the driver trying a variety of options when stuck. Finally chooses Low traction launch and just - WOW.

Now that I saw LTL, this is pretty amazing. Once I got that deep, I would have dug it out and put down the trax without even trying LTL. Glad to know, now.

Folks:

I think it is probably appropriate for me to note my use of All-terrain progress control (ATPC) to obtain driving without using one's feet. ATPC enables a very stable, full-control of the vehicle by the computer when off-road.

Hill descent control (HDC) is a less featured portion of ATPC.

You may want to want watch this video for explanation.

Enjoy !

When I tried this out I get a message to gradually apply accelerator pedal. See screenshot.

In your example, no accelerator pedal because you are also in hill decent mode?

But going uphill it appears you do use the accelerator pedal?

You have to apply throttle. It isn't automatic. I had it in my old D5 and my current 110 and it works the same. Gradually apply throttle until the wheels start turning and it will get out of sticky situations.

You inspired me!. Took a trip to run some trails in the WV mountains yesterday in 3-4" of fresh snow. Got to play with all of the buttons. And yes, this mode really does the trick.

We have a ton of ice on the roads now in Oregon. Conditions on the side roads are ... ice skating rink.

Remembering this thread, I used this "low traction launch" around my neighborhood today (I think it stays active if you maybe don't go above 20 mph or something).

It's quite good. Very cool. I've got a good bit of snow ice offroad time in my Defender, and have never used this. It got me unstuck 2x today on hills.

I'd agree it's not a gimmick and I was surprised how well it works.
