So first of all, I don't like wearing my seatbelt in the city. I wont get into the why, but the issue was that annoying chime. I looked up a hack for that and turns out there is one. The hack is fastening and unfastening your seatbelt a number of times thats confirmed with a different chime. So it worked, but the side effects are kinda cool. The auto engine stop is disabled when I don't wear my seatbelt, and both my headlights stay on when turning, regardless of my seatbelt being on or not. The auto engine stop does come on with the seatbelt engaged. Anyway, thought I would share.
I'm not sure if that is "interesting cool" or concerning that the seatbelt setting would have such an impact on what you would assume are completely unrelated systems. Thanks for sharing though.

You too have teleporting sharks in your city? I've been forced not to wear my seatbelt as well in an attempt to egress the vehicle as quickly as possible when the unexpected Mako decides its going to try and make a quick meal of me by teleporting into my back seat.
It's not really a "quirk". The vehicle monitors everything. If it thinks it's receiving bad information, it can shut down components & systems. For example, if you open and close the fuel filler door 6 times in a minute (something like that), it stops monitoring it for a given time.
That's what you're doing to the seatbelt monitoring. You're pissing it off and it shuts down. The side effect is that the entire vehicle is connected on multiple busses with multiple modules. In this case BMS battery monitoring system is connected to the seatbelts to include that data into the way the entire vehicle works. BMS is being told there is a fault which may be a bad electrical connection, short, bad ground, etc.
It then thinks it's a bad idea to turn the vehicle off at a light to avoid a battery drain ((that part I'm making up/piecing together).
Your seatbelt is connected to everything.

Great info from @allegedly .. very complex and thorough. I had no idea the seatbelt on the Deefer was this interconnected... but it makes sense.
PS I like the recent technical posts on this board.
Still annoyed that it slams in park when you drive with the door open and seatbelt on or off

I just got mine to back up about 40 feet with the door open by cheating the seatbelts and closing/opening the driver door about 25 times in 30 seconds (hold the interior release latch open and just swing the door back and forth).
It's a little smarter than the seatbelts though. As soon as I applied the brakes it prevents it again.
