Default N599NAS1 Safety Recall - Engine Cut-out MY20/21

See enclosed, released 7/7/2021. Appears to affect about 43,000 Defenders, MY2020 and 2021 (check the last 6 digits of your VIN to see if you are affected.)

In short, a software conflict may cause the engine to cut out with no warnings 5-10 minutes after starting it, while in motion. Sounds like fun! It is noted that power steering and power brakes should continue operating even if/when the engine cuts out

Affected vehicles will be repaired via SOTA update, so you should not have to visit a dealer for this, and you probably won't get a notice in the mail - unless the SOTA update fails, in which case you will be notified and will need to bring it in.

The software update from this recall will disable Diagnostics Over The Air in the affected vehicles, most likely making them less "connected" than originally advertised. There goes the idea of dealers being able to troubleshoot malfunctions from the convenience of your own garage.

Interesting. JLR has taken what used to be a purely mechanical feature of their trucks and created a digital update! No doubt a much more efficient way to get your engine to cut out. In fact, the old ones used to take more like 20 minutes.
